Calling on experienced RD owners and riders for this one, it was late in Autumn last year when my RD350lc 1980 early model was ready for the road however due to the fairly hard winter i only went out for a couple 20 mile runs so bank holiday i took the bike for a 50 mile round trip to work which involved on the way back a good blast with a few bigger bikes, now here's what i noticed and i hope it males sense.
On the run bike feels reasonably smooth however sat at traffic lights left cylinder appears to miss a couple of beats then make up with a bigger one on the third, a couple of twist of the throttle clears this before it conks out then 10 seconds later it will repeat.
Again running the bike on a A road 55mph to 60mph all good then i found myself overtaking a few caravans/cars etc and really enjoying myself knocking down a gear and spinning the motor up 7 or 8 thousand revs the bike seamed to loose pulling power and the engine appeared to be giving off more vibes almost feeling less smooth than normal, I appreciate i was working the bike a little but I cannot remember what it was like 25 years ago maybe it was the same.
Anyway I backed off as i didn't want to risk any engine damage, didn't notice any undue smoke the only thing i have noticed is a small air bubble in the left cylinder clear auto lube pipe which i thought was strange and i seamed to go through a tenners worth of fuel pretty quick.
My carbs are the early type and i set the air screws etc to the Haynes manual is this correct? does what i mention above seam about right? not sure the misfiring at traffic lights is correct thou. I meant to say the bike was a import from Sweden very much untouched and all i have done to the engine is free up the clutch (slipping a little under power i think) replace all the fluids and clean out the carbs new plugs etc its done around 20,000 miles.
