The story Some 64 years after RAF Flight Lieutenant Ray Holmes successfully defended Buckingham Palace from an oncoming Luftwaffe bomber by ramming it in mid-air with his Hawker Hurricane, P2725, our partners at TMB Art Metal excavated its wreckage from underneath Buckingham Palace Road. Limited to 100 pieces, this watch contains a piece of aluminium from P2725's engine that has been engraved with a map of London, whilst remembering the heroism of those throughout the RAF’s ranks as we approach its centenary.

Nice watch Veg ![:)](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/smiley.png) Have you been to Brooklands museum in Surrey ? They have a Hurricane there which was a Lend/Lease to Russia and served with the Red Airforce until it was shot down over Murmansk in 1942. An ex colleague of mine was an Engineer before he joined the Fire Service, and volunteers at Brooklands, and has had quite a bit to do with rebuilding and restoring the Hurricane. It's a great place to visit. They've also got the Wellington bomber that was pulled out of Loch Ness ! Dusty

I always wanted a nice watch, I used my inheritance from my dad to treat myself to a breitling, it reminds me of him every time I look at the time. It’s something I can hand down to one of my sons when I pass my sell by date too. 1 can have the riddler, the other the watch, not sure who would be better off!

I love that yes my son will ultimately gain from it, breitlings are good, nearly had one I’m a bit sniffy when it comes to Rolex’s etc I apologise if you have one just not for me.

Never wanted a Rolex, they don’t float my boat, being a big lad I needed a chunky watch. Just like the fact that a piece of my dad is with me if that makes sense?

I had a Rolex in the past. I wore it weekdays and took it off at the weekend (to work on bikes). Every Monday I would wind it (shake it) and it would never start keeping accurate time until maybe Wednesday. I've got a Breitling now, and it is far better in that respect, and I prefer the less pretentious and more rugged look too. Shame my work forbids watches on the factory shop floor, as I wear it less and less because I visit the shop floor often ![:(](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/sad.png) Jon

Nice watch Veg, your a lucky man. I have been trying to get the Mrs to get me a Doxa Sub for years. I worked in the BBMF for a while when I was stationed at Coningsby. At the time there was a couple of civilians, an old guy and a young woman, building a Hurricane in the hanger.
Jon, Not sure how a Breitling could ever be pretentious, what could it possibly be pretending to be, other than the top quality watch that it is. Only Breitling I have looked at lately was 30 euro in Crete.

Rolex is 'the' touted about watch of quality, but I think that's partly people recognising the brand. They've probably never had a decent brand watch to know the quality themselves, and just go by word of mouth? As you say the Breitling is a quality watch, and I actually prefer it. Jon

Nice looking watch there veg, I had an original Luftwaffe B-uhr a few years back, 55mm, wide and about 15mm thick with proper radioactive lume and its tick was like an alarm clock on your bed side at 2am, yet you were in a crowded room. The Germans used them to replan cities like Coventry for us, strapping them to their thighs for accurate navigation. They were highly prized by anyone catching a German pilot after a crash landing. Ive owned a bunch of military issued pieces, many that have seen action and a mate of mine has the bezel wound clock form his grandfathers actual spitfire, pulled from wreckage etc. These days I stick mostly to dive watches, but I do love the clarity of the WW2 pilots watches, stunning functional design. Ahh the lure of Rolex... one for discussing in the pub I feel, it might take a while... ![:)](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/smiley.png) I have a soft spot for their vintage divers watches but my heart lies with Omega now of course. ![:)](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/smiley.png)
