Why not send it back, even if its NOS? If you got it from a show or job lot- then i would fit with clear silicone- start with no coolant for a while; torque down again- then add water/ or coolant and see how it goes . You have nothing to lose, especailly if the head is ok.

From what I've been told, Yamaha put a sealant on the head gasket. When fitted and heat cycled, the sealant set and sealed. If it ain't there, send it back buddy- refund or repalcement. Fowlers should be cool- just be firm. On my rebuild I fitted many genuine vital engine parts, surprisingly I fitted a patern head gasket with clear silicone, still running fine. Just read your other thread- the majority of patern gaskest should be cool. Maybe check your cylinder head. Lots of forum member, keep the 4 barrel / cylinder nuts fairly loose when tightening down the cylinder head, as it allows the head gasket to seal better- then tighten the cylinder down. I'm not saying it works, yet i took forum advise and no leaks. . rdlccrazy.proboards.com/thread/35290/pattern-head-gasket-any-good

Sh#tcan the standard one and get a copper one off ebay......you can reuse it time again.you only have to heat it up cherry red to "anneal" copper and bring back its original properties.........seals better than anything else, reusable and cheap.whats not to like......? :-)
