Hi all, This is my first post, so you'll have to bear with me while I get used to uploading pics etc.
Here's the story: At the back end of 1986, I got bored with blowing up my overtuned 125LC, so I bought a 2nd hand 31K from Coburn & Hughes in Luton for the princely sum (then) of £1500. I thrashed it round for a while, had it F2 tuned by Bob Farnham in '88, pulled loads of wheelies at Santa Pod RWYBs, and generally upset the local Old Bill on it. Lost my licence (haha), got it back after a year, then bought a '76 XT500, pulled some more wheelies, then stored the YPVS in the garden...... .......until the end of last year, when in a drunken haze I decided to resurrect it and restore it to its former glory for the 30th anniversary of me owning it!!!
SO now it's in a gazillion bits in the garage (with the XT and a Harley- don't ask) getting the refurb treatment.
I'll try and upload some pics of it pre-disassembly- again, bear with me- but it was in a right state (as I'm sure you can imagine).
I've already had the frame powder coated, and it looks fantastic. I also got the paintwork back last week from Mark Cordwell- to say I am pleased with it would be an understatement. I mean, W O W. Already got most of the major bits I want, just waiting to get a Wilbers shock now and a crank.
I'll start putting some pics up when I get the time. Plan is to have it on the road for next April/May time. And get rid of the Harley.
Cheers
Rob

Hi Rob, good luck with the resto, I bought my 350 from Coburn and Hughes in 1986 for £1,500! From memory the shop was full of LCs at that time, I had a tough time choosing which one to get!

Yeah, as I remember there was a load of LCs, but I had my heart set on a 'valve. There was an A reg one (I think) with the earlier paintwork, and a B reg one with the later paint. I chose the later one- maybe you bought the other?

my choice came down to a 350LC in white with blue stripes that was very late registered on a C plate or a 350 N YPVS, both were £1500. I went for the YPVS.

BTW, does anybody know where I can get various 31K parts zinc plated in that olive drab colour? I'm in Bedfordshire; somewhere near would be nice, but not essential.

It's been a while........ Anyway, I've done quite a bit of work to the 31K, amassed loads of bits, found tons more bits in the garage/shed/loft/under the bed. Took lots of pics along the way, it's just finding the time to get them all on. I'll try to update this at least once a week from now and hopefully catch up as we go along. SO I'll start at the beginning- The bike was completely stripped, and the frame was powder coated (see pics above). Engine was stripped and cases vapour blasted back to bare ally (see also above. I decided that I preferred the black-look engine, so the cases were masked up ready for spraying.... Masked 1
Masked 2
Masked 3
They were then treated to a light coat of etch primer (the vapour blasting left them a bit too smooth for applying paint, and I didn't want it to fall off as soon as I got petrol on them)
Etch Primer 1
Etch Primer 2
Notice my home-made spray booth, a.k.a a tarpaulin!
Then I gave them a couple of coats of Simoniz Tough Satin Black
Sprayed
Then another coat, but missing out the engine nO. (wanted it to look nice and clean on this bit)
Done
And....hey presto! Quite pleased how they came out in the end, they look much better in the flesh.
Cases
More to follow soon..........

A few more pics.....I've done quite a bit, and took pics, it's just problematic trying to find the time to get them all on via the tortuous flickr route! Anyway, I started to put the chassis together, as I got rid of that Harley out of my garage, thereby gaining some space. First job was to source all the nuts/bolts/washers/shims/spindles/oil seals/thrust washers for the back end. Once that was done, I procured a nice new YSS shock (cheers muttsnuts). I also managed to locate the alloy tie bars that I'd bought ages ago. They jack the rear end up by ~1 inch. Also dug out the JMC arm. Then it was time to bolt it all together.. Shock 1
Shock 2
Arm 1
Arm 2
Frame & arm 1
More to follow soon (hopefully!) The build is much further along than it looks here!!
