Not being the bast at ignition timing setting up. can anybody tell me how to set up a newtronic electronic ignition on a RD250D 1977, do I need a stroboscope? If I do I haven't a clue how to,use it or set the ignition up, all I'm reasonably sure of the ignition should be set to 2mm before top dead centre, the left piston is that? can anybody help me out and give me some pointers?
cheers

Don't need a strobe but a dial gauge would help. You should be able to get newtronics procedure from them directly but essentially it's transistor switching using existing coils triggered by opto sensor. As it's a static system it can probably be set up by monitoring the LV feed to the coil with a meter. One thing to watch is to avoid coils just sitting with ignition on as I undstand it can overheat the gubbins if left for too long. I have one on my 350A and it works just fine.

Hi
Thanks for your reply. What's the LV feed? I have a meter, which scale does it use and where do I connect it to and what readings do,I look for? As you can guess I'm not that good with timing set ups, can build and fly a racing quad but don't know much about ignition timing.

LV = low voltage, means the wires that would go to each coil from the newtronics . Measure from that point,(meter set to DC voltage ) with red probe and black probe on ground, so engine case or battery negative. So you need the 12v to disappear when you hit 2mm BTDC as that's equaivalent to the points in the original setup opening. Can't remember if the newtronics has an LED to tell you the same information..worth checking and as I said before get the instructions from newtronics web or customer service.
