Hi all, Have had a good look through many PWK posts here but can't find a similar set up to compare to mine. Has anyone with LC hybrid, valve engine, kept the LC airbox and used PWK 28's? This is the set up I will have also running Nikkon pipes and squish set 1.2mm. If you have kept the LC airbox what needles did you go for?

I always thought if you were using an airbox it was JJH
POD filters were N68

So did I Steve, but haven't come across any settings for the LC airbox as it's a bit different from the valve airbox..

Certainly JJH are a lot easier to get hold of
Can't remember if I still have my spare n68 needles or if I sold them

LC airbox with JJH needles 130 mains and 40 pilots... a wee bit rich by intention, but it runs perfectly. Squish at 1mm .. portings, pipes, zeel, etc.

Bare, is your airbox standard with lid ,filter and intake snorkel still intact?

Lid is on with 6 3/8" holes, Snorkel is out. Hard park was with fitting the oem LC airbox rubbers. Lotsa boiling and even bespoke hoops/rings fitted internally to the rubbers, to prevent them from having a tiny/restrictive 'waist' in their centre sections

Cheers for the info Bare! I'll go down this route when I get home in a fortnight. I have the JJH needles and an assortment of jets and pilots to play with so hopefully not too far away to get a result. John

Yes JOHNLC I managed to find out that you need 3.5 slides with the JJH needles which is what I have. Kris rubbers sound like a plan I'll have to investigate. Cheers for the heads up. John

A path best avoided IMO. Default Slides that come with Keihins are the standard choice... for reason. Only go to alternates if chasing a genuine problem or Odd application and there are years of experience backstopping the effort. Need to mention? that Keihin slides bought individually are close to the price of a complete New PWK?

Hi bare depending on what model kr1s some carbs came from decided what size slides they had both mine came with 4.0 slides so needed n99 needles rather than buying new slides and needles

John lc, I thought I'd save money buying 2 X kx 85 carbs, only to find that they had 3.0 and 3.5 slides,so I found out the hard way and had to buy a new 3.5 slide which cost £57! Bummer the carbs were only £65 each.So be careful folks when buying used MX pwk's!!!

On my Hybrid, now Looeys, I couldn't get it to run satisfactorily with an airbox, ran the PWKs with standard KR1s needles & slides and foam filters without issue, carburettored nicely. Can't remember the main jet size, just a size or 2 up from standard at a guess.

Is there a table listed somewhere showing what needles work with which slides?

Does beg the question as to How?? an Identical part Number Carb assembly would be different from the other. Clearly; some fool decided to improve his PWK?? Then sold it/them on cuz they were too messed to use. Where did the Twit previous owner even find a 3.0 slide when 3.5 is factory fitment and the Only one easily available sudco.com/images/PWK28.gif

Ok JohnLc, then there must be hope for me using JJH needles with the 3.5 slides, seems to me that anyone having difficulty reaching correct carb settings is mainly due to an oversight on the slide size.I think we are getting there now nailing down which needle, slide setup works best together with or without airbox( pvalve and lc ) I now reckon my setup will work as close to Bare's settings as we both have JJH with 3.5 slides. Phew! I just have 2 weeks to go before I get my hands back on the carbs. Will post the results when it's sorted...... John. Bare, regarding the 3.0 slide, after I checked the carb ID, it turned out to be from a Yamaha yz85 which may have different slide set up?

Could be.. Dunno in truth. What people seem to forget (ignore) is that New (or at least healthy/unmolested) PWKs are DEAD simple to set up /jet. A Very forgiving/user friendly design .. That! is exactly why these are a desirable upgrade. Completely opposite to Mikunis which can be a bugger to setup/jet to perform well, doubly so if old.
As in get it even passably close ..and they run beautifully. I bought a box of jets and several needles. First try worked perfectly. Now I have an assortment of redundant Keihin bits
