Hi all
any advise on how to stop the exhausts blowing on my 1981 4LO 350 LC?
Have just fitted a 2 part gasket set from Yambits, but it still doesn't see to seal properly

high temperature silicon , get it from any car spares shop.

high temperature silicon , get it from any car spares shop. I always use the copper gaskets with instant gasket. Did have some yambits gaskets and didn't seem to seal well.

In the flange are supposed to be some 'washers' which press the pipe against the barrel. 9 times out of 10 they are gone (burnt/ rusted away). Strand of copper wire for instance can work wonders.

Offer you the flange and tighten to barrel. You should find that the pipe is very secure.. Nip up the exhaust nuts after your next few rides ..

Caustic Soda the things to clean out the blocking Goop

Having the same issue myself and am in the process of making my own copper gaskets from some 0.5mm sheet that I managed to get hold of.
Hopefully that will sort my problem out.

unfortunately high temp RTV's aren't fuel resistant, you will need to use one that is eg Hylomar
Arrow advised me a long while back to remove the oval paper gaskets from the oval clamp and only use the circular copper gasket in the barrel, the two seem to work against each other
I used multi strand stainless wire inside the oval bracket to create clamping pressure on the copper gasket and a smear of hylomar on the face of the clamp where the paper gasket went
Bizarrely I needed two different diameters of wire on each side to effectively seal the pipes
I haven't had a leak in 4 years now
The resultant burnt oil mix does ooze through for a while but then it seals itself
They used to leak from new out of the factory so my mechanic says

whats the thickness of these rings OEM?
Ive used coat hangers on my bikes but never seen the OEMs so never knew if i was using the right thickness material.

When I took the exausts off there were 2 large gaskets inside the collar and smaller ones inside the head/end of the pipe. No gasket between the bracket and the head. Just how many gaskets do I need and is this a typical early setup ? The bike is a German import if that makes any difference. Any info would be greatly appreciated !

Any info would be greatly appreciated ! you're missing the steel ring as pictured above, you only need one gasket per exhaust if that ring is in place, use some copper wire or the likes as described above to fix the problem then you will only need the one gasket, also, the early exhausts have a paper/fibre flange gasket, but most people don't bother with those TBH

Cheers Dave, I assume the purpose of the steel ring is to put pressure on the exhaust gasket and to then seal the collar to the head? I'm in Ireland at the moment but I'll take them off on Monday and take a look at what's what.
