Are these cases in a bike with logbook? Interested in the engine number on the logbook? I know jap market RZ cases just have the prefix 29L, but at least that gives something for DVLA to put on. I would assume DVLA might take a dim view of no number at all thinking it's been filed off? p.s. Is that a dingo in you avatar? Jon

Hi, the bike was a German import a few years ago, I registered it in U.K. I've got the uk log book and delay put for engine number ( not known) I've mot'd it a few times and obviously taxed it. The factory lines where the engine number would normally be haven't been touched it's identical to my other 350. Dog is the wife's shiatsu πππ

I've read some bits on line about casss being changed at dealers under warranty after the chain had give way and smashed them. Also read that at the dealers sometimes they just stamped anything on them and sometimes nothing at all.ππ I'd really like to find out for certain.

Dog is the wife's shiatsu πππ You could always turn it into a matching numbers bike, although I think I'd leave as is for the novelty factor. I was being a bit tongue in cheek with the dingo comment. Isn't the photo upside down? Jon

Hi Jon, yes I'm going to leave as is, don't see original blank cases everyday. I just want to know why Yamaha left them blank.π

As said above , all new cases supplied by Yamaha through their spares dealers were not stamped . I remember selling them back in the day when I worked for a Yamaha main dealer .

I wonder could I get my cases changed under warranty ?? The chain has devoured the left hand side over the years . Hmm , must find out where it was first purchased , lol I read somewhere that jap home market LC' didn't have engine no's .

Jap domestic engines didn't have beguine index numbers as such but they did have the ident prefix, so the 250s had 4L3 but no other digits and the 350 had 4U0.

Yamaha cases are not designated a number untill they are paired with a chassis on the production line.

I had a set of cases without any numbers. Not tampered with at all, just the casting lines ... our friend funds for her won them on eBay, before he was famous.
He then put a claim in saying not as described as described. He said he scraped the lines and numbers underneath.Which there wasn't. He lostj claim as he tampered with the item.
Long story short. Some cases come without numbers, for some reason or another.
