Hello everyone. I am fairly new to posting on this forum. Been on here a while but mainly just read posts not add them! I have just bought a French import RD125LC mk2/3? Ypvs. I am going to strip and do up as a rolling restoration. Looks in good condition and the owner assures me the motor is good. Will rebuild as a matter of course but want to get registered ect before a full rebuild. First job is to sort the (yellow!!) fork lowers. Can't decide whether to keep wheels in standard finish or gold - any thoughts?? Also what spray cans would you lot recommend for engine, frame ect? Welcome to the forum, I have a few of these. Yamaha did the Gold wheels on the second production run. I can sell you some decent Gold wheels so you can alternate, maybe have a different colour each year The engines on these are strong but I find them coked up badly if not ridden hard enough, power valve and exhaust needs thorough cleaning if you buy one from a plodder. It's the stator and Cdi are the weak points and a worry as they are rare and expensive. The baffles might be restricted to make them very quiet, you can open them up a bit and get a few more revs top end and not much noisier. There might also be a bit of narrow pipe in front of exhaust, I dont mind as they give a little bit more low down torque which suits my roads, many are drilled out though for more top end. I used to paint the top end and exhuast with plasticote BBQ paint, but heard on here the new stuff isnt as good as the old. I can't recommend for the frame, but you'd probably be looking at an Acrylic, in gloss black for all the black metal parts. Make sure the center stand mounts arnt worn oval, if they are have them welded up a bit as the back wheel might still touch the ground when its on it, and the stand will flap about when riding

Thanks for that info. Will check on the centre stand mount. I managed to find a nice (ish) micron pipe so should do away with any restrictions. As far as the stator and rotor fingers crossed all ok. When I had one of these in '88 I thought my stator had gone but turned out to be a sheared woodruff key - cheap and easy fix!

Welcome in-sound forum.
Apart from the glow-stick forks, that's a very good example. Once you have registered the little LC, you'll have an un-butchered, thrashed to death example to restore or ride. Great find. Black wheels

Was really happy with it when I picked it up. Very original bar a few bolts and indicators. Rust free tank and seeet sounding motor. A good start for a resto. Might buy a second set of wheels and can swap back if I change my mind.

(built on the same bike as yours, can be put back easy) The rear tyre was bald, so I threw on a spare Gold wheel to ride it up and down the road. The black looks maybe more classic and the gold sportier maybe. Some of the TZRs came with same Gold wheels This is my Gold wheel bike

btw In the UK the YPVS only came with Gold wheels
