Can anyone tell me if the ignition timing can be altered on a 1984 mk1 rd125lc? It seems like it isn't firing at all after 6000rpm. Have replaced the carb, all jets, reeds, manifolds, filters, fuel tanks been cleaned, exhaust, coil, cdi, spark plug, carb slide and needle basically everything apart from the pick up coil and have been unable to get any readings from the pick up coil yet as the multi meter is broken.. compression is at 150psi and I'm at a total loss and any help would be greatly appreciated. Cheers, Marc.

Welcom to the forum. I think the ignition timing is fixed. I had similar problems after my rebuild- tested and changed everthing. In the end it was the CDI, yet you have changed that. Pick up coils rarely fail. When you get hold of a meter, test the stator windings. The secondary winding operates higher revs. You'll sort it.

Thanks for the advice. Will be doing all checks today. Had the wiring loom off yesterday and did many repairs but it's still no different. Also managed to get hold of a complete engine cheap as chips so I will probably just swap staters over. Happy days👍🏻

As wonkywheel says the CDis can break down and they can feel like carb problems. Fooled me several times over the years. try and borrow another CDi, def check the readings on stator first to make sure you have a good one before fitting new Cdi. a cheap multi meter will be ok.

New cdi has been fitted. I'm going to test the stator today, which wires am I testing and what am I looking for? I've not got that much time due to being in work so can I just test the wires from the stator instead of taking it off? Cheers.

Yeah unplug it from top of radiator area. I'll get readings from my Haynes manual later if you dont have one.

That would be great thank you. I ripped the stator off in my dinner hour before but didn't get time to do anything else, found some more problems so I buttoned it back up for now.

Nice one, thanks! I've got a stator in shit hot condition from a tzr 2rh I think it is, the only difference I can see in the 2 is the back plate which the pick up coil mounts to, do you think it would work on my RD if I swapped the stator plates?

Did some more wire repairs, noticed 2 stator wires were the wrong way round, fitted another new coil and a dyno jet kit with a 240 main jet and boom she flies. The power band is so aggressive it just wants to wheelie all the time😂 Top job👍🏻

Hmm possibly but not sure yet as might be using the engine. What price would you offer? It's absolutely mint, the engine it was in has only done 600 miles from factory.
