Looking for an electric heater for the garage, that doesn't need 3 phase. Anyone have any recommendations. Thought about the little devil from machine mart, but had one of these fan based ones before and it didn't really get the garage warm as the air passing through only got to a certain temp, so on a cold day it felt more like it was blowing cold air. I have been using a calor heater, but obviously they cause condensation. So looking forfsomething else.

Fully insulated garage door makes a world of difference. No good on a detached garage mind

I leave a 600W oil-filled electric heater switched on in the shed all day every day from the end of November to the beginning of March to keep the bikes nice and cosy, and a 2kW fan heater on cold days if we're in there hiding/fiddling about/looking for something to do. It was warm enough to do stuff on Sunday with just the oil-filled radiator on and I know leaving it on full time isn't cheap but nothing in there ever goes rusty and I hate doing anything in the cold!

I was thinking about a central heating tank, immersion heater, central heating pump and radiator in my garage. I think it may be a bit expensive to run though even if set to the minimum on a timmer

You beat me to it Ken
We're too busy trying to keep the sheds cool, never mind warm, 43 where I'am today and a possible cyclone where I'm going next week, great fun - not
The heat evaporated the fuel from my carbs the other week, took me ages to get the thing started
A bat flattery didn't help either

Hi,
I bought this a couple of years ago from Machine Mart
Clarke Devil 370SP Quartz Halogen Infra-red Heater with Swivel Head (230V) 010411370
Heats up straight away. No smell or condensation. Works a treat in my single garage.

You're doing it all wrong. In the Winter, just use your Dining Room as your Lounge, and your Lounge as your Garage

Afraid I just use a calor gas heater, the garage is draughty enough to negate the condensation.
Thinking about insulating the roof (and fixing the door) later this year.

I'm just planning a timber workshop to be nicely insulated, and fancy having a go with a heat pump, even as a slightly pricey project. I had visions of using old fridge motors / compressors and stuff but don't really have a clue. Dave

Dave Hi mate You could probably get the heat pump for about £500 Install should only take a couple of hours but needs a qualified A/c or fridge engineer Due to the specialist tools and F/ gas qualification needed by law to use HFCs I think you can buy a plug and play unit from b and q Matt

I built a boiler room in a corner of the garage when i redid all the heating in the house. I also put up a 6 foot radiator in the garage as it was close by and easy..
That, coupled with the carpet and the roof being insulated means it's as cosy as the house...

Garage too cold in winter as it's detached and metal roof so gets a lot of condensation on roof don't know if it's down to having her dryer in there so mine lives in sun lounge during cold season

With summertime temps in the 40's at times, the last thing I need is a bloody workshop heater! 😜

agreed, its all about insulation to keep the heat from the roof away from the inside. I have a couple of fans...

Garage too cold in winter as it's detached and metal roof so gets a lot of condensation on roof don't know if it's down to having her dryer in there so mine lives in sun lounge during cold season Typical real world price of a Tin roof : serious condensation issues. Which is Why Bldg codes require a waterproof membrane fitted to a roof structure underneath /before a metal roof is applied. Likely the dryer adds to the problem. But then the usual dryer install features an external exhaust duct.. for obvious condensation issues, even without the Tin roof.
