My Mk3 125 ypvs has had a complete engine rebuild and Im now in the process of making the cases look prettier so removed the clutch side cover, stripped the oil and water pump off and will repaint it to give it a spruce up.
BUT while I was in there I had a closer look at the clutch and found theres 5-10mm of play between the outer clutch gear (meshes with the crank gear) and the alloy basket fingers which hold the clutch plates. This is turning play so with the gear held tight the alloy fingers can turn 5mm either way.
Is this right?

I would say that's a tad too much free play, 5mm ain't too bad, 10mm is pushing it, although don't quote me on it. You also need to see if any groves have formed from where the clutch plates sit in the basket. I would rebuild the clutch and see how it goes. You'll soon know/ feel if the basket is knackered.
