Just for fun, what's the longest trip you've done on your LC? Andrew12345s recent post about IOM got me thinking should a trip to the TT on my LC be added to my bucket list? Anyway, don't think I'll win this one with Inverness to Ullapool for chips and a pint (68 miles) being the best I can do!

Sussex to Uttoxeter for the VJMC show, to John O'Groats, back down the west coast, via Ullapool to Mallory, for a thrash round the track for the festival of 1000 bikes & home to Sussex.
Did a write up for the VJ magazine & the LC club mag.
On my YPVS engined LC, which Looey now has.

Put the seat on mine today, no tank or engine yet and pushed it from one side of my workshop to the other making ringa ding ding noises with my missus looking on and trying to decide if I'd finally lost the plot !! Guess I'm not going to win this one !! ?

In the 90s I rode from S. Wales to Barcelona and back on my standard 350lc.. 2500 miles all in. Did it over 4 weeks and via the Picos mountains in N. Spain and although she suffered a tad over 1000 metres, she did over 50mpg average! I did over a 1000 miles in a week last year on a trip with some 4 strokers to Lourdes, southern France riding my 31K hybrid, a bit frantic at times and really missed engine braking in the mountains Love these bikes

Wow those are some distances and some really interesting places
Beats the pants off me, Perth to Busselton and back 400kms in a day with lunch thrown in for good measure
The 1100 km in a day is very impressive, where was that done
I regularly drive 950 kms in a day and have done Derby to Perth which is 2500 in two days to do it on an RD is indeed some feat - awesome

I did 1341 miles last year on a rd400C to the German 2 stroke rally and won the longest distance travelled award. I know it's not an LC but was a smoker all the same!

longest trip on my lc was a few weeks back. 440 miles to brussels and back over a weekend. i too averaged over 50mpg. mainly because i was with a load of old brit bikes and we ran at about 55mph. i was made to ride at the back because they were choking on 2 stroke smoke.

.. The 1100 km in a day is very impressive, where was that done .. Few years back, I think 2003/4 .. was going from Burgundy in France to Lurcy Levis for weekend 2T racing. Came there with +40 C* outside. Unfortunately Paul Richard is very near and that weekend was a F1 race. No way to find a place to sleep around. Got frustrated, took a (warm) beer from the bar on the circuit .. then took another. Then I was so pissed off that I took the bike on the road to ride back home, to The Netherlands. Sth like 800-900 km. Half drunk. Then I came to Paris and it's rondo .. but got home about 1h after the midnight. And could not sleep. Next day took my RD and rode to the north of Netherlands, 500-600km more. Just for fun.

What kind of speeds are you guys running on these really long days? 70-90km/h? 100-120km/h? Faster? Just wondering how the bike will like extended periods of highway riding (Canadian 100 series highway, so 100km/h "suggested" speed limits).

I did 6 hours at 100-120 only stopping for fuel on the way back from Germany.

A couple of years ago a mate and I set off from scarborough heading to the algarve via the Chanel tunnel, got as far as Le Mans by which time both head gaskets were playing up , so hired a car and dumped the bikes outside railway station , had gaskets posted to friends in Portugal , fixed them when we dropped car back off and road home no probs, worked out great in the end had a great time.

I was wondering how much itime on the longer trips on this thread is spent on motorways . Im never sure as to long runs on a motorway is good bad or indifferent on a 2 stroke

Basically what you're asking your peers is 'Can you guys give me the green light to sit with the throttle wound full open for an hour at a time?' Seriously though, I'm interested in honest answers to that one too. 250LC I had back in the 80s just wouldn't stand it. Used to challenge myself to try and ride the 35 A-road miles to my girlfriends without rolling off the throttle except for junctions! Resulted in 3 rebuilds in the space of two years. Thank f#$k the bitch dumped me before I was bankrupt all together, lol!

I went to the man in the eighty's on rd 250 all my friends was on big fours I holed a piston on motorway one of them found a big piece of rope back of a truck at a service station he looked like a Michelin man coming down motorway it was wrapped round him so he wrapped rope round his body & I wrapped it round mine & he towed me to Liverpool not recommended when we got to ship everybody cheered, when he hit the throttle his ass went backwards & I went forwards it was dodgy ass f**k their was big dog ends off the knots bouncing off the motorway we nearly got to fighting as they was slagging my rd off as they all had the latest four strokes & I had put them out they wanted to throw it overboard, bet they wish they had it now,

From Chester Cheshire to Hythe Hampshire, back in 1982. Hit an oak tree on the way down and only broke a mirror. Walked away, (rode away) happy days.

My mates wife used to be a nanny for a couple in Salisbury. She regularly rode there and back (from Bolton) on her RD400, most famously with a singer sewing machine bungee'd to the pillion seat. She's still pretty cool now, rides a Ducati scrambler at 50+

In October 1980 I rode from Leeds to Hull, then Rotterdam to Opatija in Croatia, two up ( aroound 920 miles each way). Two overnight stops each way. I wouldn't even ride to Skeggy on my current LC now for fear of breakdown. The 1980 LC never missed a beat even when cruising at 90 mph along the Austrian trans alpine motorway.
