Is it absolute must to use only oem Yamaha head gasket for F2 ? The same question for the base gaskets too ..
BTW, I have noticed that one cylinder is 0,08-0,09 mm lower than other one. Mounted them on the block without gaskets and checked with the filler gauge.
Thanx for any reply,

Standard ypvs base gaskets are 0.5mm thick and I believe athena base gaskets are 0.4mm thick but they are good quality. Yamaha ypvs base gaskets are now an incredible £23 each-WTF is that all about (£8 each last year!!!) Athena will be fine on bikes with standard squish clearance(you may gain a little power as well) but just be careful on tuned engines with tight squish bands. Yamaha gaskets are 0.5mm when new and stay 0.5mm when torqued, and athena gaskets stay pretty much the same, but the cheaper ones may start off at 0.5mm but they are made of crap material and can compress too thin when torqued down.

To get a tighter squish on my F2 , I used a single leaf of an Athena head gsk, its been dynoed and ragged on the road without any trouble at all.

I have used pattern head gaskets before without problems
Norbo does a quality kit or I have also had the ne brand ones off eBay.
You can get oe Base gaskets from Malaysia for about £16 a pair posted.
It is highly likely that I have a pattern head gasket you can have for the price of the post.
Also torque the head first, then the Base bolts. Let's the Base gaskets take up any tiny differences in seating.

thanx all for the replies !
its good to remind my rusty brain about the RD engine .. I have forgotten so much ;(
I did not see in Norbo shop any gaskets for F2 ?
This is what Ive been thinking of. I will try to correct the height with the sandpaper.
Using any spec sealant on the gasket ?

my recent head gasket experience on my f2... my knowledge is very basic and i rely a lot on folks experience when working on my bike,, I borght and got back on the road this bike which i run on a slim budget,, so if i can save a few quid i will... I had purchased a full "quality" gasket set of norbo, and shortly after i melted a piston so it all come in handy,, I asked the same question as you and most folk said to use genuine on the head,, but when i saw the cost decided to take the chance on the "quality" one,,, anyhow everything went well and got all ran in fine, but then had an unrelated problem with my powervalves so engine had to be stripped to remove them,,, on taking the head off and removing the head gasket I could see where around the edge that comes to the barrel where the oily gasses had been getting up to the part that squashes together, and on part of that where these oily gasses had started to break across, and was about half way over,, so i think a bit more time would have seen this gasket fail,,,,, so this time ive bit the bullit and got a genuine,,,, I cannot say its because of a poorer quality gasket, as it could be a problem with my barrel or head, but both seem fine and no signs on the old genuine gasket of this, suppose time will tell....

Damned few quality differences betwixt an Athena Valvie HG and an Oem one. Both are 3 layer with ridged edges on the outer leaves. One can mix 'n match the leaves for desired HG thickness for Squish setup But using the thicker center leaf(sans edge ridges) alone can be problematic. A simple spritz of Copper Coat HG goop Will make the HG resusable *multiple* times :-) LC HG's are the ones you gotta watch out for. PS; one Can easily ( ~10 mins per side) DIY a Base gasket from a Roll of Suitable Gasket material and a #11 Exacto blade. For Very little Coin.

A simple spritz of Copper Coat HG goop Will make the HG resusable *multiple* times :-) Can you get that in the UK ?. I've looked for it before but never found it ?. Is it Head Gasket specific copper spray you use or just the Permatex Copper Spray-A-Gasket stuff ?. The genuine head gasket in my valve motor is on its 3rd use with a good clean and the thinnest smear of clear RTV silicone.
