"A" plate 1984 MK1 - Help (1. Colour)

Guys, 
I am brand new here and to the RD's in particular even though I owned a couple in my youth, like all returning later in years I am trying to get my head round the colour and whether I should be a purist. I am of the impression now I have a model and age where they didn't do a black version and part of me wants to make it original and part wants to have the black and red done. Can someone tell me if that's wrong (Did a black Mk1 exists). 

Also would it be cheeky to ask any of you gents to send me a picture of your own Mk1's for ideas and design tips

a black mk1 did exist but wasn't available in this country, only as an import.

I never used to like the Black MK1 probably because as Jay says it wasn't available in UK, but it really grew on me when I owned one 5 years or so ago.

These are/were my originals plus my custom Black/Red a bit like the McLaren F1 cars.
