so hi to everyone again, I am after some help with my 350 YPVS rebuild, I have done a complete engine rebuild with all new bearings and seals, the carbs have now been stripped and meticulously cleaned twice but I have an issue now where as the bike will not start or idle unless I force choke her by putting my hands over the carb mouth, it will run OK on main jet as soon as the slides lift, I have checked and re checked the pilot jets and they are clean and clear, carbs are balanced both at lifting point and through the viewing windows on the side. I am now at the end of my knowledge and experience and patience and spanners have been sent flying any help or ideas will be gratefully received Cheers

Do both sides have identical symptoms or does one side run different to the other ?. Maybe the best thing would be to see if you can borrow a known good pair of carbs, to eliminate yours as the problem ?. Last year I could not get an X7 to run properly on the r/h pot depsite having the carbs professionally ultrsonically cleaned, all jets clear and all setup properly. Borrowed a r/h carb from another bike and the bike then ran perfect. Sometimes they can have hidden circuits that get blocked and no amount of cleaning will sort them Good luck anyway

Cheers for the input, the right hand side is worse and needs a constant hand over it to keep it ticking over, looks like I'm looking for some replacement carbs I think

Not sure what carbs yours has , but is the balance pipe between the two carbs fitted ,, assuming your carbs should have one

Is it any better warmed up
The reason I ask is you say you have to put your hand over the carb to get it to start.
You haven't done the old float bowls on the wrong cars trick.
Left bowl has the starter jet, right doesn't

Hi Steve it makes no difference when it's hot it still will not idle, I have always kept the cabs separate when stripped and cleaned but I will be sure to have a look and check the bowls, I never new they were different so worth a check, what would I be looking for exactly?

In the bottom of the lh bowl there is a hole (newer ones may have a brass jet) that feeds fuel into the choke circuit. The rh carb does not have it. You will see when you look It does sound like a pilot problem Also when you set the float height did you do it from the gasket face and not the raised edge. Steve

Have you got the vacumn pipe fitted on the inside of the RH side carb going to the fuel tap? Though without this fitted you would only get fuel flow from the tap in the PRI position.

Ok cheers for everyone help on this topic, I have now fitted a couple of carb repair kits, reset float heights, blasted every pathway with my compessor on its highest settings and am please to report that she is purring like a big old pussy cat, so happy now that I have just now sat down and popped the lid on a can of Stella, looking at running her down for her 1st MOT in 12 years next Saturday, I am hoping it's gonna be most of the way on her back wheel WONDERFUL
