Left side carb is leaking from overflow, quite a lot of fuel coming out overnight
Opened it up and all looks clean
bike runs fine though, so what's the likely causes?

Float height as been through that nightmare!
Check the needle shuts square when the float pushes it as mine were new replacements that were rubbish

Yeah all of those things but float height too low, not too high. The higher the float height, the earlier it will close the needle seat. Best bet is to whip the floats off, get the needle valve out and make sure it hasn't worn a groove or got any debris stopping it seating properly. If it all looks good, get it back together and check the float height is correct

Couple of problems you have there.
One is the overflow which will either be float height or the float needle tip being like plastic. Norbo does repair kits for a tenner a side. I replace them as a matter of course on a rebuild
Secondly as you have a 31k with a vacuum fuel tap it should not pass fuel when not running so needs a fuel tap repair kit as well.

Ok, checked float height, it's fine
Took float needle out, it looked ok no debris and seating ok. Although I don't know what I'm looking for! It was black in colour at the tip, is that normal?
The leak is very minimal now, so I wonder if it's just the fuel tap?
Any advice appreciated

Not really. The tap shouldn't leak past but even if it does, the needle valve should stop the fuel at the correct level in the carb. So looks like you have the 2 problems. If the float height is correct and the needle tip and seat are clean, then the needle must be worn and needs replacing. Probably best just get 2x new needle valve assemblies and sort the tap out at the same time

The needle tip should be soft and rubbery
Other problem can be the o ring the seals the valve seat can be perished.
As said buy a fuel tap repair kit and 2 float needle repair kits
