Guys, my rd400D has no spark! Having done some checking I suspect the coils are both dead. The Haynes book says primary 1.4 ohms & secondary 6.6 ohms. My coils are giving similar resistance on both primary & secondary, one is 5.53K ohms and the other is 9.2K ohms. The ballast resistor is 2.2 ohms on both sides (not even mentioned in the jolly old haynes manual)!! Anyway, with readings like this I'm thinking they are knackered. Do you agree? The contact breaker assemblies are virgin untouched and the voltage measures all OK..... The bike has been dry stored since 1979/80 and is bog standard - only 7,000 km - so I guess they could have deteriorated over the years. I have seen coil replacements which do away with the ballast resistor....Any experience on these?? Cheers Guys, L
