ive been away a long time, but am now getting towards the end of my F1 complete rebuild.... Everything is sweet running fine all set for putting body work and tank on,
But ive found a quite fast oil leak when bike is running, its engine oil not 2stroke oil.. i can not find exact place of leak, but it appears from around the alloy coolant pipe that is fed from the large rubber coolant hose in between the carbs then dribbles along top of crankcase down through the centre of engine to ground... i can just see with a torch,,, the flow of oil as it appears around the alloy coolant pipe where it goes into the crankcase,, if it was coolant i would say this is the start of leak,... but its engine oil???
I hope this all makes sense to someone and they can give me a clue where to look? ive been trying to locate leak for last 2 days..... i thought maybe base gasket was blowing but it seems to be just appearing from around that alloy coolant tube, and no obvious leak to see.
Thanks

Thats an odd one matey. The parts book shows an O ring for the water but nothing for the oil and its been a while since I last saw that pipe I can't remember the exact arrangement.
Just remembered, oil wise the pipe should see no oil as it is surrounded by the shape of the cover in that area and the gasket is the same shape, if that makes sense.

One question. You got antifreeze in it?

The R/H engine casing gasket goes around that coolant pipe where the pipe goes through the casing.
If the bottom loop of that gasket where it runs under the alloy coolant pipe isn't sealing, it can let oil get onto that alloy pipe which will run out onto the top of the crank case under the carbs. Make sense ?.
Could be that ?.

Over-filling should make any difference to that gasket but the clutch will be throwing a lot of oil about, so you need the gasket to be 100%.
