I have lots of bits of 250 and 400 engines in a couple of boxes and they are mixed in together.
I have dug out an RD400 case, crank, barrels and head so thats a start
Are the gearboxes the same on 400s and 250s and if they arent how can I tell the difference?
I also have two flywheels and coil plates how can I tell which is a 400 one? (does it matter?)
On the other end of the crank, are the generators the same on 250 and 400 and again is there a way of telling the difference?
Are the reed blocks, inlet manifolds and carbs the same?
Thanks for any help you can give me

When you say primary gears are different are you talking about the front sprocket?

When you say primary gears are different are you talking about the front sprocket? The 400 gear on the crank has more teeth than the 250, and clutch basket has less teeth than 250. 21/68 for the 250 23/66 for the 400 This is for the E/F, I don't know if the C/D has the exact same difference.
