I cant get my 31k to rev over 5000 rpm. The carbs are fine and havent been changed . When i turn on the ignition the pv does its cleaning cycle but when its running and i rev the bike ,it doest move . It will rev over the 5k when there is no load and statinary but not when riding its like its just blocked and sounds like it just struggling Any ideas chaps ?
Thanks

sounds like the controller/cdi isn't working properly, unless you have just rebuilt the top end and put the power valves 180 degress out as that would do it as well

So mutts if the cdi / coroller is knackered would it still go thru the cleaning cycle , i have to admit i did in a blonde moment put the battery on back to front and did some loom damage so this could have done the cdi / contoller damage

Easiest thing to do is take the exhausts off, and check if the valves are the correct way up and check what they do when they ignition cycle and when the bike is revved.
When the ignition is switched on the valves will cycle and stop in the OPEN position. Then when the bike is started they should moved to the closed position. Then when the bike is revved they should start to move towards the open postion (can't remember exact revs but say 5,000 upwards at a guess).
There are video clips of them working properly on youtube, even where people have strapped a camera pointed to the pulley when the bike is being ridden.
The other thing you could do is check they are the correct way up, then pin them in the fully open position and take it for a ride. Sure it will be crap low down but should go properly in the power band. That will at least tell you if the problem revving is valve/controller related.
Good luck.

would agree with all of the above, my controller would do a cleaning cycle at first but the bike would stutter at 7000rpm, then no cleaning cycle and no power above 5000rpm
It could also be your servo not turning the pulley far enough around thus not opening the valves, are you sure the pulley is lined up correctly and the cables adjusted accordingly?
Suggest changing the CDI,controller and the servo out for known working ones and eliminate one at a time I did the same and it was the PV controller
its an easier method to start with, as all you do is plug them in one at a time, obviously removing the old servo and CDi takes a bit more effort

You can check to see if the valves are the right way up by looking at the powervalve connecting block at the front between the cylinders. If they are correct the screw heads will be at the top.

Slides in the wrong carbs. Cutaway on slide faces back towards airbox.

You can check to see if the valves are the right way up by looking at the powervalve connecting block at the front between the cylinders. If they are correct the screw heads will be at the top. It took me a while to twig that a previous owner had fitted the power valves on my F2 upside down - it would perform OK well up to about 6,000rpm. He also managed to swap the carb float bowls . This was the 1st bike that I'd tried to use without a complete strip and rebuild for many years - I won't do it again.
