Hi I'm new to the site and have a question if anybody could help me with.
I have an 1990 rd350 ypvs f2. I've had it sent off and a fully documented restoration has been done with no expense spared. I've since found out its a cat C. This was back in 2007. Would this now make it difficult to sell on and would it be worthless.

No mate just means was to expensive to repair through insurance,I've had loads of catagpory write of bikes and no problem selling them

no , won't be worthless , if u have a full restroration kind of cancels out the cat c , but - to me it's like having a q plate , not ideal but ......,,,,,.

A cat C or D will generally demand a lower price than a bike that has not been written off.

i think all this will do is if the bike is involved in another accident they will not pay out full market value as it is already on the hitlist as previously repaired

Also, how many people pay for an HPi check when buying a 25yr old bike ?.
I guess now you know it's a Cat C, it's whether you offer the info to any future buyer if/when you sell ?.

If I sold it I would inform the new owners.
Don't know how much it has now depreciated in value compared to a non cat c

it all depends on condition of bike plus what was repaired and quality of repairs ..are you selling then and getting opinions on value  |

I'm just want opinions on value. It's had a full restoration. Every part has been stripped. Frame has been stove enamelled, engine has had compete overhaul, new liners ,Pistons crank, power valves every nut and bolt has been stripped and replated back to zinc and olive drab. All callipers overhauled with nos discs. Dream machine paint job. Everything has been done and it looks like it's just come out of a showroom. It's concourse, I couldn't of imagined it to be as good as what it's turned out. I've got a fully documented restoration with pictures from start to finish.

Personally I don't care on the older bikes.
As the cat thing is recent there will be a load of bikes that were written off before they started recording.
Also how many have been smashed up with 3rd party insurance so you rebuilt it yourself so nothing recorded. At least if it has a cat c it has been looked over by an assessor and deemed cosmetic/uneconomic.
I barrel rolled a fazer 1000 after high siding on a track day. It would have been written off as parts alone would have been over 2k. Bought used parts and properly sorted before trading in a year later .
I now have another I bought as a cat d. Bought it with the damage after a slow fall on its side with minimal damage.
Would you rather find out you had the hpi clear one or the cat d with details and pictures of the repair/rebuild.
I have no idea if any of my rd'so have any history, means nothing as all rebuilt

the only reason it gets vin checked is to make sure the vehicle is not rung over ie steal another and put your plates on it

Well if its either a 2 year old bike or a 25 year old bike, it still might be nicked so i don't see why you wouldn't :S It's usually £500 off when its cat c for something thats worth 2k + Or reframe it |

For £5-10...... every time ! Agreed, especillay if that 25 year old bike is worth what LCs are fecthing nowadays. In 2011, I bought a GSXR600 which unknown to me had recently been involved in an accident, so nothing showed on the HPI check when I bought it, around 6-8 months later, my insurance brokers called me to advise of its change in status to a Cat C and that they would no longer insure the bike without me taking it for a seperate engineers inspection I would have to pay for, id just come back from doing a 3,000 european trip on it so was a bit surprised! In the end we settled on me taking it for another MOT. I cant complain too much as the bike was faultless and I sold it on for £400 more than I paid for it, I had some great rides on that bike, your LC sounds lovely , so do waht I did and just enjoy it....and get some pics up! |

Thanks for all your advise. I will definitely be using it as soon as the weather warms up. It's my first Ypvs and a bike I always wanted as a spotty teenager lol.
