Never.
If it leaks with a good condition gasket then something isn't right. I re-use my gaskets over and over again and never had a leak.

Cheers heres another I've got a new o -ring on the coolant pipe but it's really easy to slip the casing on and off even with no silicone grease on the o ring could I maybe fit a fatter o ring or is this normal,it's been a while since I built a lc a nd I know I had a nightmare getting the clutch casing off my other engine.?

Yeah the genuine seal does seem quite small but it should be fine. Some put a very thin smear of clear RTV Silicone around it to be safe.
Incidently, when I stripped my curreny YPVS engine for the first time, it had a beefier square section seal in there that was thicker than the genuine seal. I replaced it with a smaller looking genuine seal and it's always been fine.
