Do a search with the text "rust petrol tank" in the "with all the words" field and you'll be able to read about it all day......

OEB, I have used this too with good results.
Left it for day's to work, and also submerged a small fish tank heater to speed things up.
Going to try reverse plating the next one, as it looks much more 'mad scientist'.

Even though it wasn't me that asked the question, I'm also suffering rust where the sun don't shine.
First time I've seen that Deox-C treatment, good info, thanks OEB

Hi citric acid bought off ebay.left in tank for 24 hours . brilliant results non corrosive so won't effect paint work then for final finish fish tank gravel with wd 40 shake about for 5 minutes or as long as you're arms can stand empty out dry off in front room on best towel in front of radiator top job like new inside .

Thanks OEB, my bottle arrived this morning, will soak tank over the weekend, Sureseal in the post, one of those moments that you know you should not look in your tank!
Rust found in carbs, so got a £15 endoscope off of Amazon, holey crap rusty tank...! Looks fine around the filler cap, but everywhere else..

Fill with vinegar, leave for 5 days, empty tank, (safe for paintwork) I usually swill tank with a gallon of petrol and a good glug of 2 stroke in it, fill straight away with thon super unleaded as apparently its not got as much ethanol in it yet

...and once you've treated the rust the best advice I would give is to switch to using pre-mix, although I'm sure loads will disagree. My own tank hasn't got a sign of rust inside and only a small amount of surface rust on the underside (obviously caused by damp in the air) which I'm currently wire brushing off and repainting.

These tanks are a big problem now. Sounds strange but I bought my bike to build hybrid mainly on the condition of petrol tank!(it was like new on inside) Plastics were crap ,engine was crap etc but these things can be fixed a lot easier then tank repair. I now run on on pre-mix to keep it nice. Hybrid I building now has plastic tzr125 4dl tank so no problem there !!

Well once the rust was removed from my LC2 tank there were over 200 holes, in short a write off. However I would say don't scrimp on the de rust. This is probably where I went wrong before adding the sealant. If I could turn the clock back a few years I would have left the rust eater in for a good 12 + hours and rotated the tank regularly. There is a scientific way of converting or rather reversing the rust back to base metal. You need a car battery and a couple of electrodes. Look on the net for precise instructions. I tried this many moons ago on a Honda cb175 would you believe, and it worked. Just saying.
