Managed to get out for a few kilometers (about 80) this morning with my mate Alan on his FJR1300, you couldn't get 2 bikes further apart lol, went down the old coast road towards Wollongong (any of the Sydney guys on here may know it)stopped at a little cafe in Austinmere he knew for a bit of brekky, than stopped off on the way back at Woronora Dam for a while Hard to tell how this bikes going to run at the moment, nearly run in now after the top end rebuild was done not long before I bought it, and it does seem a little better since I modified the 250 exhaust it had on it, I am a bit reluctant to take it much past 6000 rpm, but when I have it feels very strong, but between 4000 and 5000 it's a pig, it coughs and splutters, don't know if this is normal as it seems fine once you get it in the power band, it was supposed to have had a carb kit put through it when the top end was done this time last year, but I think I might get this looked at again, I have a carb kit that I got from Norbo with some other bits, and am just waiting on a refurbed oil pump from Gary (Arrow) so will do them both at the same time Very happy with it though, great to be back on an LC after a 31 year break

9 times out of 10 the rough running in the mid-range is either worn needles or the needle position is too rich.
Sometimes they only do it at a small throttle input, whereas if you throttle a bit more it will pull through cleaner.
Maybe try dropping the needle one clip, which means moving the clip one notch nearer top/end of needle (further away from the pointy end)
Great you got out for a run :-)

Cheers lb, lovely bike you have there, I have had the LC for 3 months now and only been out on it 4 times due to it sitting at my local bike shop for the first 5 weeks for a few simple jobs, and then another 4 weeks while I was messing about with one of the exhausts, but like you I hadn't really ridden a bike on the road for over 20 years, so it's great to get out and about The paint work was done last year before I got it, and I don't know a great deal of the history of the bike, pretty sure I am the 4th owner, I think the 1st owner had it for well over 20 years, the second guy around 5 or so years, and the guy I bought it from only about 8 months, it had a top end rebuild this time last year when the 2nd owner wanted to put it back on the road, and I have spoken to the guy who did the work, he knew some history of the bike and assured me the 22,000 km on the clock was genuine, it's far from perfect, but what I would call very original, if it was perfect I probably wouldn't want to ride it, I put a new set of Battlax's on it as the one's that were on it had been on it since 1999, according to the date code on them and the sidewalls were starting to perish Talking about the paintwork on the bike, I am not sure if it should have the 3 stripe set up on it, I believe that was from 1982, although the bike is that close to it anyway it doesn't matter, compliance plate on the headstock says December 1981, I like the 3 stripe look any way so it can stay like that Gary is sending me new oil lines etc with the pump which I hope to have sometime this week, I need to get some more cosmetic bits from Norbo to tidy it up a bit more, and then I'll be pretty happy with it, other things to do at the moment include Get the carbs sorted out, it's not running well between 3000-5000 rpm The centre stand is going to far forward so the back wheel is touching the ground Re route some of the wiring from the handlebars that has been run incorrectly Apart from that, not too bad Where about's are you located?
