as my mk2 125lc is fully stripped, bits sent off to be powdercoated etc ive noticed that if you look through the inlet port on the barrel the piston has had the 2 oval holes modified,(dremel style )it looks like the holes have been made bigger. is there any benafit of this?if not it could just be a differnt piston that never had the holes that some body has converted. the bore isnt scored so i was going to leave it but if im not sure if to replace it while the bike is stripped?if i strip it its not going to be cheap as i would have to get it honed, new piston, rings and ports tuned as its off.? any help appericated

Best to stick with non-messed pistons.......altering the ports too much can weaken the piston skirt........and if it shatters...........well your engine will stop revving very quickly......and a very expensive rebuild will be next.
Best replace the piston mate....to be on the safe side

i glad you said that as it looks a bit worrying,I'm tempted to clean up the inlet port too while it is stripped as it has very nasty original casting marks (it looks like bird sh*t style MIG welding).I'm confident i could smooth it all off but again I'm a bit worried that i could screw up the performance of the bike if i alter it too much?

As dean says messed around pistons are weeker. 125's are trmpimental at the best of times so id fit a standard one. If you are going to tutch up the port for gods sake dont tutch the part next to the cylinder or you may change the port timing just smooth out the track way .

been down the workshop today, whipped the head and barrel off and found that the inlet port has had some mods too im not sure if its a good thing yet as ine never rode it ive only heard it running, all i done to the barrel was smooth the nobbaly casting marks out a bit,i havent changed the shape at all just lightly smoothed it out. what effects should the piston with modded holes have? (even though its getting binned for peace of mind) i havent got a digy camera so cant put any pics on

The moded [piston probley made the band come in sooner but it would have allso lowered the crank compreshon .
