Hi all, A friend of mine has finished building a superb Yamaha 350 R5 flat tracker, and is looking to start his next project. He has loads of parts left over, and odds and sods from other bikes. He wants to fit another 350 air cooled engine into a 350ypvs frame with rgv250 or kr1s running gear. Anybody done anything like this before? Any help appreciated. Cheers Baz

I built a rd 350b/lc hybrid motor in an lc chassis a few years ago , lc top case ,the rest aircooled , mainly cos I holed the bottom case when it blew , and I didn't have to chop the frame either
A mate stuck a tz in a valvie frame , small bit of cutting and welding
I should have some pics somewhare
Let's see his r5 build

I went to fetch a ypvs engine I had bought.
Got it from a fella in his 60's maybe.
Engine was in his workshop, so had a nose around like you do.
There was a kh 500 engine on his bench. Turns out, back in the day he built a few LC's with 750 engines.
His mate had asked him to do another after all these years, the only engine available was the 500. He said once the mounts have been fabricated a 750 would slot straight in at a later date.
He was selling the YPVS engine,he only wanted the to keep the pv chassis to fit a 750 into that.
He was also doing his own porting and made pipes for these triples. He had raced them in the past on the strip.
You meet the most interesting people in our biking community. I could have chatted to him for hours.

Lol Boothy'L be on that soon as Looks a cool project tho Mike I can categorically say..............He won't. No room in the garage for one. And I've got 2 projects on the go ATM and I can't be arsed. I think this is the last of my project days. I should be more than happy with what I've got.

Haha I've said loads of times "this is the last bl**dy project bike I'm ever gonna build" . Trouble is I change my mind every time ! I got my first bike, a Dt50m, in 1983, and modified that, and every bike since - to varying degrees. I often think it would be easier to run with the pack and buy an off the shelf bike, but it's not me really. Each to their own, but specials are in your genes matey, and I'm sure they'll be more !! If it's like the last time I won't be able to pronounce "categorically" Roll on Cadwell or something inbetween.

Cheers Baz Hello Baz, This is my first post here, happened across this place from the2strokeforum.proboards.com. I am based in Ireland and I have both an RD250B engine and 350 F2 rolling chassis ready to marry together and I too was wondering of anyone had done this? from my observations the top front mount [different bottom mount for stabilizing bars on the frame] are the same but wider on the AC engine and the top rear mount is different [no bottom mount on the frame]. AFAIK the AC engines didnt have rubber mounts,do you know if this is this correct? and if not has anyone rubber mounted and early AC engine? Regards, Alan

Hi Alan, Welcome to the forum. Only the aircooled 400 had rubber engine mounts; In this pic you can see the rear mount will accommodate the push in rubberised bushes. The two front mounts had the same type of bushes too. The 250 cases were just an ally housing that the mounting bolts pushed through. Good luck with your project. Dusty
