Hi all, been a while since I have been on here but can you please tell me if a mk1 RD125LC frame is the same as an import 1986 RD80LC? I intend to build a bike using the two combined, cheers.

The RD80LC MK2 frame has an extra mount welded on to take the different engine and swing arm. Apart from that they're the same. Airbox rubbers, battery box, loom, exhaust, speedo, switch gear, rear sprocket are a few more differences. The 80 uses the same size front disc but has slots cut out, the rear shock has a different part number and may be softer along with the fork springs.

Thanks for the info, do you think the 125 frame is still viable in that case as I don't have access to a welder?

I think it would be a bit of a waste to turn a UK 125 into an 80. can't you register the German 80? Ive bought them as spares, but I sell the German MK2 80LC items to fit the UK 80LC

I could I guess but as it stands, the frame was sitting in a garage for the last 7 years going to waste so I think perhaps its better to get some use? Also, having picked it up today, the only obvious difference I can find (without stripping 80) is the steering lock is built in on the 125 and separate key on the 80, cant seem to find the extra bracket you mentioned?

Ok, humble pie time. I found the extra mount so not going to use the 125 frame now. Going to fettle the 80 and maybe register in the future.
