Hi, I just wanted to introduce myself as it's my first post, although I have met some members on here already. I bought a Cagiva Mito back in January to use up my Athena 421cc TSS Banshee engine that had been gathering dust in my shed. I'll finally get around to doing a build blog soon.
Anyway, I've been having problems getting the DVLA to change the V5 to 421cc and to record it as having no engine number. Replacement engine cases are blank and don't have those tamper-proof vertical lines stamped into them. Initially they said engines don't come in 421cc and also all engines have to have a number. To cut a long story short, they finally accepted an email from Yamaha UK stating replacement cases are blank and an invoice from Steve at Wave Racing confirming the work had been done and it was a 421cc. The V5 now has it as 421cc and engine number 'not known'. Result!
I know owners like to keep numbers matching but I was also advised that should a case need changing, it is illegal to stamp an old number on a blank case.
Hope this helps others, Rich

Over the years I've owned three bikes with engine number 'not known' .. Japanese-market bikes under 250cc have blank cases, so it isn't uncommon at all. Welcome to the forum

Yes have had a few sets with only 29l on them.
Think you have been lucky as although yam stated the cases come blank they do have the lines so looks like yours have had a number removed. Not that it really matters.
