HI I have restored a RD250 LC and have a problem with it . The engine starts first kick and revs cleanly when not under load But when I ride it the power is good until about 5000 revs then it splutters and the power is flat and it does not pick up revs. I have cleaned the carbs and all the jets, checked the reed valves and the stopper heights, new plugs and air filter, balanced the carbs. I am going to decoke the exhausts and recheck the oil pump settings to see if this helps. Does anyone have any advice ? It does not pull past 50 mph HELP !!!!!!!!!

The motor is standard I just honed the bores and changed all the oil seals , new clutch and springs , it is running on both cylinders. IT has good compression

hi mate, i had the same prob on my 250 a few moons ago it turned out to be the float valves sticking, just make sure the bowls are clean and give the jets a blast with an airgun, sorted mine out ! hope it goes for you mate.

think davesyam could be right about the floats sticking mate...would make it run out of fuel...not really a problem at standstill...only notice it on the move...either that or the float height like borrie says...does sound like its not getting enough fuel on the move...could try giving the bowls a little tap before you strip the carbs again...

It could be the stator plate behined the fly wheel braking down and not working on the higher revs coils. could be crank seals put in wrong what do the plugs look like after a ride same couler on both of them ? you will need to put old plugs in to check this . Could be something simple like the wrong flote bole on the wrong carb. If you look in side both have then 1 has a small holl in it you will see what i meen when you look this bole should go on the choke carb. Hope this helps .

Thanks Norbo I will check the float bowls. I think it could be the coil or plug caps. I have checked everything else except the stator.
