Cleaning clutch plates

Just wanted to check before I dive in. Got clutch plates contaminated with two stroke oil and wondered whats best to clean. Not sure if a real problem as it was not really slipping but having to take casing off might as well clean then...was thinking of just wiping them over with meths?

Obviously don't want to destroy them so thought I'd ask before jumping in

I clean them with Brake/Clutch Cleaner.

Give em a quick spray and wipe over. Should be fine after that, especially if they were holding before.

I don't think you can destry them as they are not made of cork these days evidently. They are immersed in oil though so it shouldn't matter?

Clean as mentioned then soak them for a day in gearbox oil before installing.
I don't think it will be too much of a problem in a wet clutch anyway. I used to use Duckhams 20/50 in the gearbox years ago and at the end of the days its all lubricating oil.

IF concerned; Soak the frictions in Carbon Tetrachloride for a few hours.
Or simply buy fresh frictions.. preferably for an FZ600 (30% bigger friction surface aea)
Then you will never have to worry about clutch slip again.
Unless you refill it with the Wrong oil.. again

the lc runs a wet clutch so all plates are soaked in oil. getting another type of oil on them will not make any difference.

Thanks for advise. Just sprayed some brake/clutch cleaner on them as above and wiped off. did the job thanks. wiped new oil on and refit.

I expect all would have been ok put as I had the casing off thought I may as well clean them down to make sure.

Now to sort the leaking clear window and coolant leak - always something to do (the fun!...)
