Could be petrol starvation, have you cleaned out the tap?

Check the float height and needle valves are not sticking. Swore it was electrical but was over fueling Steve

Have you checked the reed valve assemblies and gaskets etc. ?. I had a miss-fire on mine once under load and it turned out to be the reed valve assemblies drawing in air. Felt exactly like an electrical miss-fire, so took me a while to find

Hi forgot to mention on last message that when it decides to play up the spark disappears despite changing loom coil cdi stator multiple times also changed ignition and bypassed the cutout switch been out to it and won't start, half an hour later it starts, I have kept the bike in the exact position as not to disturb anything this is nuts

If the sidestand cutout switch is still there try bypassing it. Faulty one will kill sparks.

I suffered the same on my LC2, did all the things you did and still not cured it. Decided to strip bike for paint and rebuild engine, so might have cured it with new crank seals, time will tell.
Check all your earth connections too, with all the parts you swapped it not sounding like an electrical fault though, so could be air leak ?

Hi after all I've changed, I had to rebuild the engine anyway and hoped that might of cured it especially after I found instant gasket on the head gasket, put it back in and it started first kick and sounded sweet thought I might of cured it then before long back to as it was before been researching some more and remember once checking for spark at the plug, the spark was orange which apparently. Doesn't make a difference even though I put the coil off my rd350lc and also the one off my rz250 ypvs I am going to try and get another coil to try . Anyone out there got a grab rail for an rd500 by any chance ? Paul

Hi yes it backfires from both sides and the exhaust gases are a dirty brown colour while it's doing this it won't rev either. Paul
