Any tips on how to remove the gearbox bearings that are sat in blind holes as you cannot punch them out from behind? I'm guessing there are special bearing pullers you can buy but does anyone know another way?

Is there any space behind the bearing at all so u can hook onto it and use a slide hammer affair. If it has some space I may have a tool u can borrow

If you can find an expanding bolt that fits in the bearing then they will grip the bearing enough to pull them out.

Thanks guys. Some good ideas there. Gary, I will bring the cases into work and we can try and fashion something to get them out mate.

Make something to go in the end of a dent puller and you hammer them out in reverse

If you can find an expanding bolt that fits in the bearing then they will grip the bearing enough to pull them out. I tried that once, didn't work! The expaning bolt just slipped out all the time, regardless of how hard I tensioned the bugger. So now I'm left with a beaten up bearing that I probably have to cut out with the dremel lol.

I too heated my cases in the oven while the FPO was out, then slammed it down onto a piece of board and they all fell out.

if they are at the point where the inners have fallen out - or if you can get the inner race out somehow, get someone to machine you up a piece of bar that is a snug (the snugger the better) fit into the outer race, fill the bottom of the blind hole with heavy oil, insert bar into the inner race and hit with a mallet. You have just built a hydraulic press/hammer and the outer race should pop out. Just make sure to have the back of the hole properly supported so as not to crack the casing and put a rag over the bar and bearing or you will get very oily!
Preheating the area with a hot air gun or similar will also help as the CTE for Aluminium will be higher than the bearing so it will loosen in the hole a little.

Oven method works every time with no potential damage. Makes your kitchen stink though no matter how well you clean the cases! Although strangely i find the smell quite calming Lol
