Hi guys. Bike is nearly done now. Had it running today and all seems good except battery charging circuit. Ok so here goes and ill try to explain as best as I can and hopefully find out if its normal or not. So when bike is at idle with lights on the headlight slightly pulses which I would kind of expect for an old 2 stroke tbh. When I slowly bring the revs up the lights brighten up a bit then when revs get to approx 2500 rpm they dim down again slightly and stay at this level through the rest of the rev range. This replicates on the voltage tester if I go direct on the battery. It will read just over 12 volts with engine off. Just over 12 volts at idle and just over 13 volts from just above idle up to about 2500 rpm then from 2500 rpm upwards it drops back to just above 12 volts again. So essentially in my mind the battery is only charging from just above idle to about 2500 rpm. Ok so my question is. Is this normal ?

It sounds like a problem with your reg/rectifier - the voltage should rise to ~ 14V and stay there until the revs drop. You could try to measure the volts before the reg/rect to make sure its not the coils (dont forget it will be AC) also make sure the connector is ok - they can burn out ,check the grounding of the reg/rect too. What model bike?
