I guess its just down to making the effort to go as it's quite a trek from where I am. I have been across the Irish sea on numerous occasions and even been on a few IOM registered motor yachts (although they would have probably never been near the place) but never to the island itself.
It would be a right laugh to get a few of the LC crowd there as a large bunch of 2 strokes always attracts attention.
You never know - I may make it in 2014!

Not as far as the states! I'm in Sussex but would need a van to get my LC there - perhaps I could get a few other LCs from South East England to club together.

Better with a mini bus/ex ambulance come camper type thing, vans can cost around £1500 !!!! but put window in or on (we once glued rubbers on around relective mirror film to produce mock windows ) and the price can be down to less than £200 for the same ferry ! its because vans are freight with few exceptions. cars and trailers next option. There are folk regularly advertizing empty vans to and from the Island/motorcycle transport advertizing on Manx.net ads you could easily hook up with one of these and travel as foot passenger riding in the van, just another option, the trick is tofind cheap way of staying then stay as long as poss in order to make the ferry worth the effort / cash in other words divide the ferry by the days, the best we managed proior to living here was 5 weeks, but then again we got married and it was our honeymoon too..............
One of the things to throw into the equation is if a group of you got together how much would you pay collectively to have the speed limits and cameras removed from the roads where you live for a week or two, add racing to watch, bands and a whole host of entertainment, in that I don't mean you drive like a "Tw*t" but to be able to do 80mph ish on decent single track roads free of cameras and a potential ban ! Truth is when you live here you don't tend to go that fast, I think its on the "cos you can you don't" mentality.
