used to get this problem a lot when it rained, the ht lead is shorting out against the head due to the water, take it off spray wd40 (or other water dispelling fluid!)in there and when you pop it back on spray all over the cap area and plug etc it should stop the sputtering.

Hello, Can be a earthing problem, make a thick wire from frame to engine You can check the advance with a strobe light If you disconnect the yellow wire on bullet connector it should run without advance,in this way you can test if the cdi works correctly I have had about the same problem,it looked like misfiring but it turned out to be the carb Greetz Edwin

Hi, I had very similar symptoms with my Mk1 RD125LC a couple of years ago and it was the CDi unit. Would run fine for a while, then start missing and spluttering and wouldn't rev, then it would run fine for days. Swapped the CDi out and it's never missed a beat since .
