Rebuilt my front wheel at the weekend with yes you guessed It Yambits wheel bearings.. Now I thought I'd be safe with wheel bearings - surely they couldn't f*ck that up. Well all going well till I tightened up the spindle nut and the wheel would no longer turn freely. There was a grinding sound coming from the speedo drive. Took the wheel off and discovered that the speedo was grinding against the aluminium wheel boss. Now although I haven't removed said bearing yet - it's late and I'm angry - not a good combination for hammering the b*****ds out - I can only think that they are narrower than the original yamaha ones which would explain why the left hand one isn'nt holding the speedo off the boss. Has anyone else had this problem? I'll measure them tomorrow once they are out and order some new ones from either Norbo or granbys. Needless to say, if they are narrower then I'll be having a animated conversation with Yambits.

No need to order from Yamaha or any other spares dept just get them from any bearing supplier, I always use SIMPLY BEARINGSFront wheel bearings are 6301, 12mm bore, 37mm overall dia & 12mm thick. OEB

Hi, Same with me, any "standard" bearing I get a quality SKF or NSK one from my local bearing spesialist, which for me is Wyco. "6" series bearings are very common and popular and most of the time they have them in stock. When you ask for your 6301 bearing ask for 6301 2RS ones, probably a couple of quid more than an un shielded bearing or a ZZ one, but I recon a motorcycle wheel bearing is a perfect application for rubber shielded bearings.
6301 denotes bearing with no shields. 6301 ZZ deonotes two metal shields. 6301 2RS denotes two rubber shields.
steven.

Sorry if this is a silly question but did you remember to put the spacer/collar in between the bearings?

Sorry if this is a silly question but did you remember to put the spacer/collar in between the bearings? This made me smile - yes all reassembled with spacer and locating flange.

I said it was a silly question but i've kwown people change wheel bearings and forgot to put the spacer in between and wondered why the wheel locked up when they tightened the spindle.
