Hey guys (and gals)
New member on the board, just about at the point Im looking to put my old 80LC back on the road for some laughs. Last used on the road in erm, about 1996 (at a guess) but ive owned since 1990.
Not destined to be a show bike and needs a complete strip to a bare frame, blast and paint as its not faired that well in storage for all that time, everything is there though and engine still turns freely.
Only thing I really need is one fork (and maybe, just maybe a swingarm as its rusted pretty bad). The chrome has gone real bad on just the one fork, the other i think will polish up to a MOT passing standard which is all im interested in, so if you have one 'just laying around' (unlikley but worth a shot) drop me a PM and we can see if I can do a deal. Any pointers as to where to get one from would also be apreciated! I know I can have them replated and even have them made but this is suposed to be a strict budget build to a working standard, not concourse.
Cant wait to have a play on it again, currently from memory reasonably heavily ported std bore 80 with a 1mm head skim but did at various times have combinations of 110 kits/microns and 125LC pipes fitted, most of which should be around somewhere still, if only I could find them. Never setup for acceleration but for top speed (down 6 on the back, up 2 or 3 on the front from memory) so holding the redline in top, laying flat on the tank/seat hiding behind the key (as you did when you were 17!) was clocked at 95 by a mate in a car. Oh, Original unleaded and a heavy dose of octane boost helped too.
Will get some photos up here as soon as I can figure this board out.

Welcome to the forum mate . I like many more do like to see the 80lcs being done . The best thing is they are small and simple and quick to do everything is cheep for them you can do an 80 in a few weeks . But the bad thing is if you don't have a part or something needs replacing all to gether not just a referb there is almost nothing you can get new gen yam any more .

Put 30 mins into the bike at the weekend, stripped the panels off, removed carb, clecked float bowl and its still pretty clean, primed carb with about 20ml of fuel using a syringe down the fuel pipe, cleaned the rust off the plug and it started 3rd kick. Not bad considering how long its been stood. Main thing it it proves the electrics are still all ok (even the lights still worked).
Swingarm would repair, if I had to, but im currently without welder and even beer money (for a mate to weld it) is more than I can buy a good used one for so I may still have to go for a replacement.
Also sourced a set of useable forks from gernany for far less than a refurm on mine - hopefully on way today.
No other major surprises so far!

both of which you can still find, just not in the UK. Depends on the standard you are looking for. Im not looking for a concourse bike.

There is loads of parts out there if you know where and who to ask, new or used. But be warned to get them be prepared to dig deep in those pockets.

Well,
Almost there. Didnt really do a lot for a while, too cold and I only have an unlit shed at the moment to work in.
Decided to strip to bare frame and clean the frame back to bare metal, prime and gloss. More to protect it from further rust than anything else. One day ill weld the coule of brackets that need sorting and send it for a blast and powder coat. Job for another year though.
Replaced a couple of bushes and the shock pins, one of which was seized so had to be cut off.
Starting the reassembly now, swingarm back in, rear wheel in, engine back in.
Started on teh front end, went to fit the forks I had sourced a while back and which looked 'about right' when I got them.
However, it looks like they are either MX or Mk2, most likley MX. Whatever the reason they dont fit :-( they are bigger diameter and slightly longer
So, back on the lookout for another set of forks in a hurry, or im going to have to send my stanctions off to be replated and ground back.
I have a particular deadline for this bite to be back on the road, a 25Yr 'reunion' of a few of us that used to hang around together a lot and I was on the RD at that time so want to be back on it now. The meet is 4 weeks away!
Anyone by chance have a serviceable set of RD80LC (Mk1) forks sitting around they are looking to sell? (in the meantime im going to start the fork stripdown ready for plating, if I can figure out how to get them apart!)

i have a 125LC Std pipe somewhere as it also fits the 80LC (although not well) not seen it for 20 years but it must be still around.

im actually surprised what you can still find around new, im just trying to do this on a budget as small as possible.
I am lucky that the bike has been mine for 23 years, just not used for about 20 of them. Means it only had about 9 years of abuse before I got hold of it - and it was bog standard when I got it although had been down the road a few times in a minor way.
As ive found, watch out as the non UK models were quite a bit different - try to geta parts fiche or pdf for it to check yours against a UK one.
