Having bolted on the mainstand on my YPVS and then cursing at trying and failing to then attach the spring, I'm embarrassed to ask, but is the only way to attach the spring first before bolting on and prise the stand into position BEFORE bolting it on? or can someone give me a tip to save me removing the bolts again?

if the exhausts are on then its just a case of straining I am afraid, if they are not, then lift the stand as high as it will go so that the spring locating lug gets closer to the spring, it will still need some pulling/levering, but not much

Personally, and to avoid knuckle and/or component damage, I have only ever done this job with the exhausts removed. A spring puller (not pliers!) may come in handy..

The trick is to start by putting one spring end on to the frame lug, and the other one to the loose centre stand. Then easiest with two people: one to push the pin through, and one to manhandle the stand into place. My mate showed me this, made me feel like a right novice. J

Thanks everyone, I'll give it another go straining with the stand up this time, otherwise it's off with the stand again to do it properly (with help).
Cheers, Rob.
