Hi, Having a "blonde" moment here. Just got my crank back from PJ'S, and am putting into my cases with new Yam crank seals. On the timing side, I believe there is no particular way round it goes, as it is a double lip seal. Am I right ? When of those occasions when you doubt something you have previously been certain about !! Must be my age Dusty

Hi, Only ever genuine Yamaha for me I'm almost certain this seal can go in either way, but I started to doubt myself, and couldn't remember how I did it on the last engine. Only thing with the seal is one side shows some of the reinforcing metal, so I may be inclined to face that towards the bearing where it will get some lubrication. Oddly though, this will mean the writing on the shoulder facing inwards !! Dusty

writing to the outside, if its a gen Yam seal then generally one side has a slight green tinge to it, that goes to the outside, also if you look inside the seal (past the lip part) on one side you will it is slightly castelatted like the clutch side seal, so the castellation goes to the inside
hope that helps, if not let me know and I'll take a photo of one and show you which side goes to the outside
Its not a biggie if you put it in the other way round as both it is a double lip seal as you have pointed out so it works in both directions

I have fitted them with the edge with no rubber against the bearing so the edge with rubber is against the crank case.
