Been away for a week or so with the kids and Mrs to sunny Spain , I think the weekends have been warmer here than where i was but moving on to more important matters.. I moved the LC out of the garage and noticed this oil leak (approx 8cm in dia) on some card id left underneath the bike, seems like fresh 2 stroke oil is making its way to the bottom of the crankcases. Its taken 10 days to get like this , so I wasnt overly concerned , the lines are full and she smokes well enough(as confirmed by the Yamaha dealer I went to this afternoon) I was expecting there to be a drip from the lines but taking the cover off its all dry as a bone under there, nothing is leaking onto the top half of the crankcase from any of the tubing and dripping thru... Any ideas as to how its making its way to the lower crankcase? Thanks [a href=" |http://thumbsnap.com/bdFqrMQL"] |http://thumbsnap.com/bdFqrMQL[/a] [a href=" |http://thumbsnap.com/sxfxOqs9"] |http://thumbsnap.com/sxfxOqs9[/a] [a href=" |http://thumbsnap.com/w7VqwIlH"] |http://thumbsnap.com/w7VqwIlH[/a]

You sure it's 2T ? Leak from manifold ?
Or , slight weep from gearshift shaft seal ?

Its defo fresh red 2 stroke oil, you can see it between the two crankcase stud nuts in the pic above
Further forward you can see the usual black gunk from the headers as well.
Gearbox oil in my bike is yellow

Check around the bottom of the reed valve gaskets. Had a similar issue awhile back when bike was stood for a while. 2t had soaked through gaskets dripped onto crankcase & through the drain hole behind the barrels.

Just run a finger under the them and the LH side was covered underneath. New gaskets where fitted but there you go. is the bike safe to run like this for a short period?

The non return valves in your pump are probably letting the oil syphon form your tank whilst it's parked up. I can fully recommend Arrow's oil pump referb - they come back like new. His turn around is pretty quick on them too. PM him and ask - he's a really nice guy to boot!

Initially I fitted new reed valve gaskets which lasted a while but did start to seep again. Now the motor is having a full rebuild so I will also have a gander at the pump. OEB

Mine done this from under the reed gasket, it seems to be that inside the pump there is a ball bearing that sits in a groove? and is worn and will not shut off properly so oil will pass, I fitted a new pump £141 in 2011/12 and have not had any more leaks.

Conclusion to this.....I did have a new pump fitted and now the leak has gone, the worn pump was the cause of the leak... Just as essential, I dont have any nasty large air bubbles in my oil lines.. here is some pics of my old pump, it was mentioned it may have been from an air cooled RD, what do you think?
