I can understand why an enthusiast might want to restore a bike to absolute standard, but I've heard a few derogatory comments about non standard or import bikes.
There is an advert on ebay at the moment where the bloke talks about "this isn't some worthless German import".
I think a few people have missed the point of LC's.
Back in the day we rarely left them standard, they were a hooligans bike, we all ripped around in paddock jackets and jeans on modified bikes.
The first thing we all did was take the indicators off because they looked naff, then we got Microns, then K&N's, then other stuff. The LC was the bike that stuck two fingers up and the world and made a lot of noise.
I really hope there isn't a snobbery about these bikes in the LC club, I bought one to ride, not to kiss and cuddle in the garage.
Like I said I genuinely understand some people want a standard bike, I personally prefer a more standard looking bike than the banana swingarm stuff, but I wouldn't slag one off to its owner.
Beauty is in the eye of the beholder.
Or have I missed something?

There's no snobbery in the Lc club as long as its an Lc who cares. And in my view they are all imports anyway imports from Japan mine was completely standard when I got it, but it isn't anymore. I think it's just putting your own stamp on the bike and making it yours

I think any LC any shape or form whatever its origin is great to see - a rare sight on the roads and every lc fanatic I know would agree.

All of them are great from the anorak rebuild to a modded hybrid,what matters is we keep them all alive and most importantly enjoy them.

I have an import, all standard and want to keep it standard but appreciate the non standard ones on here. Love them all mate.

I hope there is no snobbery with LCs - I have had experience with a certain British bike owners club where I was slated for using a couple of metric nut & bolts where they should have been whitworth (you would struggle to see where I had used them). I would never slate anyone's bike for whatever reason weather standard , modified or fully customised. I am not a big lover of Harleys, but can appreciate that some people like them and some of the work put into the customised ones is incredible. I love to see strokers on the road whatever they may be so LCs in any shape or form is totally ok by me!

It is madness when an "import" is deemed inferior. They are ALL imports.......from Japan!!!!!!!
If someone makes derogatory remarks about these and modded bikes, sod them!!! I've got 6 non green bolts and 3 nuts on my bike,
and one of them nuts is on the seat sometimes.

I help run the LC club and we have some of the best modified bikes to the most anal of standard bikes in the country owned by members and in all the shows we do I have never heard anyone be derogatory to someone else's bike, well apart from Micks seagulls  |

I like standard because its the way things were and how I remember them, but each to their own. Some of the modded bikes look fantastic. |

std or modified what matters is keeping these great bikes runing and on the road .when they were built they were only expected to last five years or less and the owner would progress on to the latest model.guy i know had an old triumph chop,while in a petrol station some old chap came up to him moaning how he had ruined a great bike.the owner pointed to the rocker box where he had encraved the words f### ##f .the old chap did.

I don't think there is any snobbery. At the worst a little banter between YPVS and pre-YPVS owners ;D
While we were waiting for 31ks to become available in the UK, German imports were a way of getting your hands on one sooner. I got my first 31K off a guy in the North East who imported a load of them.
These days you don't have to do a lot with an LC to stick two fingers up to the world. Just owning a 2 stroke is enough said............ ;D

Like some I bought mine because I always wanted one, simple as that. I WAS going to blow a shed load of cash on an LC2 that was 99.9% original (missing just 3 OE parts) and had been really well restored to a stunning condition but my wife said if it was 1983 again how long would yours have stayed like that? I don't like admitting it but she had a bloody good point so I spent half the amount on Reba the RD and the other half of the money making it "mine" I don't plan on selling it just enjoying it.
It's about 90% original the rest is after market parts or bits I've had made. Being as Reba is a Swedish import and those guys cover everything with grease 99% of the OE stuff still works after 30yrs.
As for snobbery, if there is any I've never seen it but then I avoid those kind of people when ever possible anyway.

I have a 350r and all though no one from this site has said anything, a couple of dealers commented about it being a waste of time and money, as it was, in their words, 'an after thought by yamaha'. The encouragement from this site and the previous owner of my bike, has truely made my mind at ease!!! Its what i want, i like it and i will be burning up and down the country on it!! Nuff said.

Couldn't agree more with the above comments. I have built mine and made it how I like it. It's not a trailer queen and providing it doesn't f#####g blow up again I will be enjoying it. Each to their own if you want to make it standard then it's beautiful. If you want to customise it to your liking then its still beautiful.

There are not enough LCs or RZs in this country that we could afford snobbery from any owner. I'm just happy to see another RD on the road.

I have always had 2 strokes, both scooters and bikes. NONE have been standard.
I've ridden a few of my mate's 4 strokes and while impressed with the power, hate the weight and engine braking.
That's not to say I don't appreciate a restored 2 stroke (and lets face it the burEaUcrat's have done their best to outlaw them).
I now agree with 'Headcoats' (15 years ago I wouldn't have).
In the scooter world it got to the point where people were more concerned with a wrong bolt or non original part that they completely missed the point of ENJOYing your ride, whatever it was.
I have 2 Lambrettas, an LC and a YPVS and love them all even if they are not standard.

Hi copper99, what i ment is i have a RD350R brazilian made. Its the later model and has slightly softer lines-in my eyes! lol....But i like it, so sod the dealers and those that dissed it!! Note, no one on this site has. Quite the opposite in fact.

Mines an import and totally standard. I wish I had the creativity that some of you guys have. Spend hours drooling over bikes whether standard or not. I wouldn't worry what people think!
