Hi All. New to the forum & a returning RD owner, had aircooled before & a TZR250 briefly. The latest purchase was an impulse blind buy off the bay. Its a bit of a mongrel with 31K motor in 29K frame & needs some cosmetic TLC. It does seem to run nicely so should make a good rolling resto. If anyone knows the bike & some history I'de like to hear about it, good or bad...I'll be brave. Cheers. Goody

Cheers all. The photos are a bit better than the reality, the body works the worst part really, so I'll spend some time stripping the paint off everything, fixing tabs & get it primed. I'm not really sure what the differences are between a 31K frame & the 29K, I believe the 29K was a Japan market RZ. but if anyone can help it would be good to know what I've bought.

The engine has 31K cases so I'm assuming its all 350 engine & just 29K frame. Your right about it being the full fairing frame as it still has the bracket mount on the headstock. I'll probably remove the bracket to allow for a LC2 bikini fairing when I get one. When you say "one of my seats" do you make the covers ?

Just spent a few hours with my Fairy !!!!! After searching for the best way to get paint off plastic it turns out the best stuff is Fairy Power Spray (I suppose everyone knows this already) Started off with the overspray on the inside of the sidepanels, took most of the lighter/dusty stuff pretty quickly but needed longer (2hrs) for the heavier crud... sorry the carefully applied layers of red cellulose crud.... came off a treat. The primer is a bit more stubborn but I'll keep going to see how much comes off before I have to resort to wet'n'dry. Oh yeh, did the oven door as well so some brownie points when 'she who must be obeyed' gets home.

I had my eye on this as well, it was on ebay a couple of times and also on gumtree a month or so before. I made a couple of enquiries. I assume the bloke you bought it from bought it off gumtree, then put it on ebay.
He told me he wanted a grand, but I decided to give it a miss. The original gumtree advert said he'd enquired about registering it and it could only be registered on a Q-plate, does it have a full frame number and log book? Or maybe the guy that sold it on ebay did a frame transplant?
As far as I know its a Jap import 350 frame with a 31k engine but not sure if the engine is all 31k or a bitza.
If you've got the time you could make a nice bike out of it. Whilst it will obviously never make big money as a full restoration it should make a really nice bike to ride with a bit of graft.

Me too, I might as well just have my salary directed to his house ;D I'm totally skint just now, I just spent serious money on a new car, almost a grand on new disks for my wifes car and then bought my LC with the last bit of cash sitting in my bank account. So a month or two to consolidate then I'll be buying parts. I'm even thinking of selling one of my guitars to fund the LC winter restoration, anyone wanna buy a Gibson CS336?

Got it for a bit less than 1K as he seemed to be struggling to shift it. Times on my side with registering it, the V5C2 came with it but the frame swap might stuff up a normal reg request, if it does come back with a Q I'll slap a private plate on her. Time will tell what state the bike is really in & i'll tell the story honestly, this might end up as a caution to others or have a fairy tale ending.....or

Hi Norbo. Do you do crank rebuilds or service exchange on RD400's ? my brothers has gone titsup, the left hand main brg is slack & he's not sure if centre brgs have gone so wants to get the lot done. also the left rod is suspect after a piston decided it had enough of dragging his fat ass around.

Its the perfect bike to make a special.

You need to avoid a Q plate at all costs!!
