Now I've just replaced my baffles (cheers Norbo) the story has unfolded and its clear what happened.... To cut a long story short, I noticed my bikes exhaust note was getting a little louder, ignoring and continuing to ride the baffle finally fell out on a roundabout! By the time I'd been able to go back to retrieve the lost baffle it had been cattle trucked! Anyway it turns out the baffle had snapped inside the exhaust and only half the baffle actually fell out, (this will explain the raise in noise level before it snapped) as the rest is rattling around deep inside the pipe it must have slipped down when it broke. That will explain the sudden rattle inside the pipe and the fact I only found the tip of the baffle at the road side. How to get it out? Short of taking the pipe off and shake it out? Have shone a torch down and can't see it... Typical

i had the same thing on my more or less perfect standard pipes. the bit wouldnt come out either way. i put the pipes on the bike, lay underneath it and marked the most unobtursive sectioun underneath the pipe where it cant be seen, and sliced it open with a 1 mm cutting disc, removed the broken bit and re welded it back up. a dress up with a flapper wheel and it was fine. The pipes then lay for a few months........when i picked them up last weekend to go out and paint them,,,,,, it was ratteling again, another bit must have came loose......so i cut my way back in, and welded my way back out.....again. Cant see it at all when the pipes are painted and on the bike.

Blimey . Didn't want to go that far to retrieve the broken bit! So you removed yours and turned em upside down with a vigorous shake and nothing fell out !?!? Was hoping I'd be able to see the broken bit with a torch but no such luck Maybe I'll just put up with the rattle.....

yes, no joy when shacking them. after i removed the pieces, it was obvious that they were two big to come out the internal holes. i did think about leaving it, but after much though, i decided it might rattle and make a weird noise on the bike, and there is also the issue of a restriction, not too sure how much of a problem that would have been.I just new i wanted it out. felt like i was conducting open heart surgery, while attacking my standard pipes with a grinder. steven.

One of those endoscopes might be of use here (as well as looking down plug holes.) Aldi had one a while back for £59,(last one), I should of bought it.

Ok so got the tool, removed my new baffle, shone a torch down the pipe to find no broken baffle but looks like part of the internals have come lose somehow!?? If you look down the inside of a standard pipe you will see four ringed sections where the baffle passes through, well the last one has become disconnected from the pipe!!? How that's happened I don't know but it looks like an exhaust flange now flapping around inside?? There is no way of it passing back out to remove it as it simply don't fit back through the other sections, short of cutting the pipe open to remove, it will simply have to stay in and continue to rattle around! Anyone else had this problem??

Same problem for me. That telescopic thingy didn't work. Won't get it back through the narrow part of the pipe. There's about 25cm of the baffle still rattling in there. Looks like cutting the pipe is the only go... or put up with the rattle - only noticeable on idle - if you're listening for it. Performance doesn't appear to have been affected.

go on cut the pipe and get the baffle bits out then weld the plate back in .you know it makes sense.

Hmmm..... I'm not convinced about cutting the pipes, I'm leaning more towards speaking to Gibson and placing an order for a set of Allspeeds instead! Everything on flea bay isn't doing it for me and when a decent pair do come up, they go for silly money if spending that sort of money I'd rather put a bit more to them and have a brand new pair

So after replacing my broken baffle with a new one, my first trip out today only to have a repeat performance !😡😡 Didn't loose the baffle this time but it broke up inside the pipe again!😩 They will now be cut open😤

Tony/Clive would be able to cut them open at the weld, remove the baffel and re weld the loose plate while its appart Stuart. They did a header pipe swap for me a few years ago as I had a early pipe with a rashed body and a later pipe with a rusted header so I ended up with a nice later pipe to fit to the bike.

I had the same kind of thing happen to my bike. The baffle broke in half and fell inside. I got a wire coat hanger and fed it up the pipe fishing and and gently lifted the remains out ... simples !!!
