Took the 250lc out for a spin again and all was well apart from one little strange stutter in top gear at about 7500rpm on a constant throttle, it seemed to loose some power as if it was choking up or dropping a cylinder ? i'm not quite sure. Once i've slowed down again things splutter just a little then all seems fine again, and if I ride it like I stole it and give it the beans up and down the box all the time everything is fine. One thought that I did have was that if one of the float bowls was not filling fast enough when at a constant high ish rev so starving a cylinder of some fuel ? may have to check the float hight !!
Any ideas guys ?

Your float height may need to be higher

So I tip the carb upside down and measure where the float sits ?

check your fuel lines, make sure they have the right internal diameter and that they haven't started to collapse etc due to the ethanol in the petrol
also, float heights is a good one and also check the flow rate out of your fuel tap

When I got bike out on sunday to try it I filled the tank with fuel that I had in garage, this was the first time the tank has been full so had max head of pressure. When I turned fuel on and started bike petrol pissed out of left carb overflow, had the float bowl on and off for an hour trying different settings untill I put a new float valve in which sorted it. It does sound like it could be a float issue, may need to check height, may need making higher to keep more fuel in the bowl

Did you use genuine Mikuni float valves?

Keep a eye on your coolant level may have done the head gasket. I had a similiar problem as you have described turned out the head gasket had failed slightly and was sucking coolant into the right cylinder. As a result it leaned out and started to melt the piston dome just got it in time.
