Hi all,
I recently bought a Rd125lc. I seem to have a problem pulling away from junctions and roundabouts from standing. The bike will suddenly splutter and lose all revs, eventually stallling. As you can imagine this makes for some rather exciting situations!
When I bought the bike I was told it had a Giannelli exhaust on it, is it a case of getting the correct jets in the carb for this exhaust? If so would someone be able to advise on which size jets I would need to do this?
Or does anyone have any other ideas as to what is causing this problem?
Thanks for your time.
Toast.

The spluttering problem might very well be a blocked pilot jet. If not, I'd say you might be running lean. If you have the stick airbox on, then try a 190 jet and go down in size until you find the jet size that is good. Then go up one size again to prevent running lean. Other than that, the 125 bikes do need some revs when starting, they don't have alot of rotating mass in the engine (the crank stroke on 50 mm is also a factor that adds to the amazing ability to stall all the time lol) so they easily stall if you don't give 'em enough revs. At the same time though, you obviously shouldn't have to rev the t*ts out of the engine when starting.

Cheers for the quick reply!
Yeah it is the stock airbox that's on it. I'll follow your advice and see what I end up with.

Yeah, I just want you to know that the advice on starting on 190 main jet is fairly.... over the top. ALSO, I forgot that there are other liquid cooled 125's that uses different sizes and different carb models! My advice would be valid if you have an Mk1 model (with 10W carb), but not if you have a Mk3/carb. Anyway, if you have a Mk1 (10W), then most likely you will end up using something like a 180 main jet with that kind of exhaust pipe, but it's always safest to start big and go down in size. But start with cleaning the carb anyway, and while you're at it, make sure to check what main jet size that is in the carb. It wouldn't surprise me if it is already upjetted.
