I just put clear tube on bowl, with carb upright, open drain screw and lift tube up.petrol fills tube to show height, should be within 2mm of bottom of carb where the bowl joins

iv never seen it written down anywhere before, but im sure that the two cutaways on the side and front face, where the carb joins the float bowl, are for measuring the float bowl height, as they are also level with the gasket face. steven.

hi, they say a picture speaks a thousand words, here is how i did mine.... hold the clear plastic pipe next to the cut out on the side of the float bowl, and this will give u the actual level in the float bowl. i set mine off the bike to 21mm, then checked them like this and it seemed to be bang on. i checked the needle valve/float valves were not passing, before i fitted everything to the bike this way too. steven.

Where do you get the adapter for the bottom of the float bowl?

hi, If you go to ebay and type in..."speed flow controller elbow" then on the drop down box look for 4mm tube M5 thread, that is what you are looking for, as the thread on the float bowl drain screw is M5. You will also need some 4mm clear air pipe tube, that is also on ebay. I made this to set my float heights, as I cant set to within 20 thou/half a mm with just my eye. Connect a piece of tube to the fuel inlet on the carb, blow into the tube, then screw the cap screw up until the float valve closes, and you cant blow into the pipe any more, then you know the valve is closed.Check the measurement with a steel rule or a vernier. I also double checked the float height by filling the carbs with fuel and using the clear pipe method against the notch on the side of the carb. Seemed to work fine as it started and ran no probs afterwards. steven.

I use one of these www.vespaspares.co.uk/spares/partImage.asp?GPN=TLSCRB14&uid=0The only thing is that you can only measure from the top of the raised lip on the side. So I measure from the raised lip to the gasket face (gasket removed) which measures 2.5mm and deduct this from 21mm which is 18.5mm and set the gauge to this. Tone

How did you get the speed flow controller to screw into the float bowl as I have tried to fit a sfc to my carb but it hits the float bowl and doesn't screw in?

hi, i have a couple here i will post to you first thing in the morning. looking again at your picture.......I'm not sure if you realize or not, but you need to use an 8mm socket or spanner to screw the hex into the carb.the ones i have are designed to pivot round once fitted, as they are on orings between the plastic body and metal thread.the ones i have are like that anyway.you cant rotate the whole fitting to screw them in, try it with an 8mm socket. iv got these two here if you need them. cheers, steven.

Yes got them sorted, one was okay and they other, the level was too high so I got that sorted.
Do you know if the the float height is too low or too what does it do to the running of the bike?
Once again thanks for your help Steven.

...just reading these old posts on my phone sitting in the barbers. Fuel level too low = lean running. Fuel level too high = rich running. Steven
