you may have read in other posts that ive got some kenny pipes on me LC ive been wanting to do the practical sportsbikes track day at cadwell.ive known the pipes were loud and rdlclazy and muttsnutts confirmed this at the dyno testing as there is a noise limit at cadwell of 105db.i wanted my bike testing.i work for a exhaust manufacturer and we have noise testing meters to get type approved so after work went to the tech centre.kept the revs at 7kas per cadwells test.it came out at 109db so looks like i wont be going with these pipes on ive got carbon cans on. does anyone know whether alloy cans are any quieter

disconnect your tacho so they can't see the revs, before doing so, make a very small mark on your throttle grip where it sound at around 103/104 DB's, then disconnect for the cadwell day........ ;D BTW - hope the bike is running better than when I got it from you !!! I am sure it is........those pipes are the "my login name"....... ;D ;D ;D

Is it possible to turn the cans, so as the pipe out of the end of them is not pointing directly at the noise meter? Or even an extra angled piece to direct the noise upwards?? that you can take off latter. Just thinking out of the box.

Hi,
Make a metal plate like a gasket to go between the can and the flange with a smaller hole on it. Say 15mm which will restrict it.
Just don't thrash it like that or you could do some damage.

I always have problems with noise testing, my race RD/YPVS runs Martin77's with TZ end cans, the ACU limit is 105, I just scrape through with the powervalves turned off and the bike nice and warm. Never had a problem out on track, and apparently the bike is no louder than any other two stroke. Carbon cans resonate less than alloy so seem to be a little quieter.
Mungo Prentices LC was tested at 116 db last year at Pembray! Various solutions were tried including washers into the end cans, swopping the cans and taking the tacho off, we got it down to 107dbn in the end when the noise tester took pity on us.
Noise testing at tracks is variable to say the least, and I've had loads of of different results over the years. One of the problems I have is the noise test is measured at 7000 just when the pipes get into their stride and resonate :-(
Be careful if you are doing a weekend at Mallory, it was and still is I think a 95db limit. I don't possess any bike that will make that, and many new standard bikes failed it.

Does that mean Mick's gonna have the fastest laptime! ;D Mick would have the fastest lap time, even if marsbar passed the noise test and I was on a 125lc ;D think you should do as muttsnuts says and get the bike nice and warm and see where you are running below noise limit, mark the throttle and disconnect the rev counter So get it booked and don't be messing about in novice group get yourself in the intermediate group with me and norbo

"Mick would have the fastest lap time even if mars passed the noise test and I was on a 125" Yes, because the poor b***ard probably hasn't slept for over 24 hours because of someone imitating Holyhead fog horn in their dreams!!!!

Yes mate just drill the heads off the rivets at the outlet end this way its easier to repack and assemble.

Do they test just before going on track or during prior inspection? Can you not fit a quite set for the test and swap for the slightly 'illegal' ones for the track?
