Hi fellas i'm usualy over on the lc side of this forum but im doing a rd400e engine for somone, does anyone know what that small hole is for in the exhaust port? iv'e done a lot of two strokes in my time but never seen owt like this, what does it do? does it want opening up/closing up??? cheers

I was told it was to ease compression on starting when I asked the same question,still not sure though ,I don't worry about it any more it's usually blocked up with carbon anyway after a few k miles.

I thought it was to ease overrun when decelerating , but I've never found much difference blocked or not.

Most tuners back in the day used to tap and plug it, Yamaha suggested that it was there to stop the mid range surging that plagues the early 400's. Like Howard said, I don't think it makes a blind bit of difference!
