so the Special was finished so I thought I would get on this.
I have been working on it for 3 weeks but not posted it on here until now so that why it look like I have done it all in a day.
This is the RD400F I bought early last year.
The engine was stripped and in boxes
I stripped the rest of the bike and left it on my shelves while I collected parts for it, the bike was complete but it had C/D barrells heads and carbs so I spent the last year collecting parts.
I have always wanted a white and red one but this bike had just had a fresh paint job that was far to good to repaint so I advertised this set on the forum and bought a new set for painting. (shaztez bought it)
I sent the frame and various parts off for powder coating and the paint to Tony Collins and that was returned late last summer and with most of the parts I required were sorted and ready to fit.
I had the engine cases vapour blasted and I dropped the rebuilt crank and the rebored barrells round to RDnuts with all the other parts of the engine for him to do his magic and within a few days the engine was done.
I had been restoring various parts as and when I had time over the last year.
So with most of the work done and the NOS sourced it was time for the rebuild.
First job centre stand and spring.
Headstock bearings
Next job was to clear out all the threads.
Steering lock in.
CDI unit is a pain to fit when the bike is assembled so I was advised to fit it first.
Yokes
Swingarm
The wheels are powder coated and the rims polished, all bearings in and ready to fit
Clocks all painted and ready, all new bulbs and ignition wiring loom rfeplaced.
forks
Front and rear mudgaurds are NOS (rear pattern)
So I painted the inside with Smootherite
Front end done.
Time for the rear wheel
Engine going in.
Time to sort the loom.
Im hoping the cable route is correct.
Fit the airbox, oil tank and battery box
Bleeding the brakes
Then RDC Keith the lollipop man turned up for a cuppa tea so got him working as well
I have now done all I can as i cant fit the side cases as Im missing the dowls and the cluch spring
